Obama's Brutally Honest Facebook Post About Sandy Hook Might Make Some People Angry

President Obama wrote a heartfelt message on Facebook on Wednesday to commemorate the four-year anniversary of the Sandy Hook shooting that left 20 children and six educators dead. "Today, we remember them — the staff and teachers who responded to the danger in their hallways with strength and resolve, guiding the children to safety, even giving their lives to protect the children in their care," he wrote, also thanking the first responders and mentioning the children who "held each other in the face of unconscionable evil."

The outgoing president also condemned Republican-led Congress for failing to pass gun control, such as background checks and increases in gun safety technology, even in the face of more mass shootings since Sandy Hook. While politicizing the anniversary might upset some people, it's a necessary message in order to prevent gun violence from continuing.

"But I still believe that there are enough good people on both sides of this issue who care more about protecting our kids than defending effortless access to guns for those who would do our kids harm," he ended the note. "I still believe we have the courage to change."

Sandy Hook has deeply touched President Obama — in his speech on gun violence in January of this year, he began to cry when he mentioned the shooting. "Every time I think about those kids it gets me mad," said the president through tears.
