Chocolate Cheerios: Ga Ga or Gag?

Oh no they didn't.

Oh no they didn't. Look out moms 'cause chocolate-flavored Cheerios are heading to a store near you. The old favorite is getting a makeover in one of nature's finest flavors — chocolate. If mommy thinks the standard "o" shaped bites are addictive, she may need to check herself into Cheerio rehab. Sure to be a hit with the young population, moms may not be too thrilled to introduce their wee ones to the newest member of the cereal family for fear of spoiling their tiny taste buds.

Will you treat your child to the chocolate Cheerios?

Cereals Marketed to Wee Ones Are the Least Healthy Ones

As if we didn't already know this... a new study out reveals that all of the commercials that bombard wee ones during Saturday morning cartoons are marketing the least healthy food options for youngsters.

As if we didn't already know this... a new study out reveals that all of the commercials that bombard wee ones during Saturday morning cartoons are marketing the least healthy food options for youngsters. In between Imagination Movers and Dora the Explorer, tiny viewers are likely to see an advertisement for Lucky Charms, Coco Puffs, and loads of other sugar loaded cereals. When mama heads to the grocery store, it's almost a given that her lil guy is going to beg for the leprechaun laden box that just so happens to be right at his eye level and well within his reach. And to avoid a meltdown, she might just give in and buy it for him.

I had my fair share of Fruity Pebbles and Lucky Charms growing up but I am trying to keep my tots on the good stuff as long as I can — her top two choices are Life and Special K with strawberries. It's just a matter of time until she discovers the land of food colored corn puffs and floating marshmallows. After all, they are magically delicious.

Do you let your tot dive into the bright and sugary stuff?

You Know You're a Mother When: Cereal Dinners

Before baby, when my husband was out of town or had dinner plans, I lined up sushi and sake dates with my girlfriends and headed out for some fun.

Before baby, when my husband was out of town or had dinner plans, I lined up sushi and sake dates with my girlfriends and headed out for some fun. Now that I am a mom, a 7 p.m. bowl of cereal is my idea of heaven.

When the sun starts to set and my oldest rascal gets hungry, I put on my mommy hat and whip up something creative, tasty and nutritious for her dinner. After bath and bedtimes, I'm back to the kitchen to cook up something for the old man and myself. But when he's out of town, you can bet a dose of Special K cereal does the trick.

Lil Tip: Cereal Boxes Have Hidden Talents

As a cereal consuming family, we put at least one to two cereal boxes in the recycle bin each week.

As a cereal consuming family, we put at least one to two cereal boxes in the recycle bin each week. Instead of always tossing the containers away, I started creating other uses for them.

If you need to transport cupcakes or muffins and you don't own a cupcake carrier, you can gently put a load of the sweet treats in the box for transport. Just remember which way is up so you don't mess up the frosting.

And, if your child is old enough for a desk, he might enjoy filing boxes for their organizational needs. Just cut the box down to about 3/4 the height all around leaving the top off, too.

Then pick out some crafty printed paper and wrap the box with it. To avoid messes and give the product a nice finished look, use double–stick tape for best results. For the interior of the box, let your child design it using markers or crayons.

Tony the Tiger would think these ideas are GRRReat!
