I discovered the magic of fiber powders late in life — last year, when I was pregnant. At the risk of giving TMI, pregnancy constipation is absolutely a thing, and drinking extra water and eating fiber-rich foods wasn't cutting it for me — I needed to call in the big guns. I continued taking fiber after having my son. But I was never totally hyped on my regular supplement, which contained artificial flavoring and aspartame in addition to psyllium husk. So when I heard that nutrition company Sakara Life was launching their own supplement, called Sakara Fiber Super Powder, I was immediately interested.

Sakara is known for their plant-based, nutrient-rich meal delivery service, and I had a hunch that their fiber powder would be engineered with the same values as the rest of their offerings. And sure enough, Sakara Fiber Super Powder contains a range of different prebiotic plant fibers derived from whole foods, including baobab, pineapple, apple, and green bananas, and is free from artificial colors and flavors and refined sugars.

I swapped out my usual fiber for Sakara's Fiber Super Powder, and within a few days, I was pretty sure I wasn't going to be going back anytime soon. Here's why.

What I Like About Sakara Fiber Super Powder

First things first: I didn't notice any disruption to my, ahem, regularly scheduled programming after starting to use Sakara Fiber Super Powder instead of my tried-and-true psyllium husk fiber powder. I don't know that the powder made me more regular, but I also didn't really need it to — so I count that as a win.

But there were a few reasons I preferred Sakara's fiber powder to the other one I'd been using. For one, Sakara's option was free from the cloying artificial-sweetener flavor, because it's subtly sweetened with monk fruit instead of aspartame.

It also never gave me stomach pain or extra bloat, something I would sometimes experience after taking psyllium husk powders (often when I was a little too liberal with the amount of fiber I dumped into my water glass). Sakara's Fiber Super Powder contains a digestive enzyme blend in addition to its fiber blend, and it's made with prebiotic plant fibers, meaning they feed the good bugs in your gut, which may be why it was gentle on the stomach.

Another upgrade was the taste. The Fiber Super Powder's flavor is labeled as a "hint of pineapple," and that's exactly what it is — a subtle pineapple flavor that I found tasty enough to drink alone with water, but that is understated enough to blend easily into a smoothie of your choice without becoming the dominant flavor.

What's Worth Noting About Sakara Fiber Super Powder

The packaging instructs you to start with half a scoop of the powder, then gradually increase to a full scoop daily to get the perfect amount of fiber. Because I was already a regular fiber supplement consumer, I dove straight in with a full scoop — but that may not be your best strategy, especially if you don't typically use fiber powders. It also suggests drinking it with 12 fluid ounces of water (or blending it into a smoothie), which is a good idea. Fiber absorbs water to help keep stool soft, so skimping on H20 can make a supplement less effective.

Like all fiber powders I've tried, Sakara's powder does have a tendency to clump up in water — it takes a good stir to get a truly smooth blend if that's how you're drinking it (and I found that it mixes best in warm or lukewarm water versus ice-cold).

Who Is Sakara Fiber Super Powder Best For?

This powder is a great option for anyone looking to boost their fiber intake. The powder is also gluten- and dairy-free, so it's an option for people who are avoiding either ingredient.
