Jessica Chastain Goes Bleach-Blond at the Met Gala

Jessica Chastain understood the assignment. The actor switched up her signature red hair for long platinum blond waves at the 2023 Met Gala on May 1. Chastain's new shade was reminiscent of Karl Lagerfeld's own icy ponytail, which he famously wore tied back toward the end of his career. Given that this year's fashion event was completely dedicated to Lagerfeld, the late Chanel creative director, Chastain showed her commitment to the theme with a look inspired by the fashion designer himself.

Chastain styled her unexpected bleach-blond hair — which we can confirm is a wig, courtesy of celebrity hairstylist Renato Campora using Hair Rituel by Sisley-Paris products — in a center part with a pair of dark sunglasses, also likely an homage to Lagerfeld's style. To keep the focus on her hair transformation, she wore a strapless black Gucci gown with matching sheer gloves, which added a stark contrast. Finishing touches included a dramatic smoky eye and disco nails created with hand-placed crystals.

This year's Costume Institute exhibit, titled "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty," features the designer's work with fashion brands like Balmain, Patou, Chloé, and Fendi. While some stars have opted to pay homage through their outfits, Chastain is one celebrity who decided to take a more literal approach. Others included Doja Cat, who pulled inspiration from Lagerfeld's beloved cat, Choupette, with facial prosthetics.

Ahead, see how Chastain honored Lagerfeld herself, debuting a major makeover on the red carpet.
