The birth of twins Moroccan and Monroe brought much joy to Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon, particularly after experiencing a miscarriage five years ago. Following the birth of baby Blue Ivy, Jay-Z rapped about his love for his new daughter and the miscarriage Beyoncé suffered earlier in his instant hit, "Glory." Midway through the song, he rapped, "Last time the miscarriage was so tragic, we was afraid you disappeared . . . false alarms and false starts . . . all the pain of the last time, prayed so hard it was the last time."

A year later, Beyoncé reflected back on her miscarriage experience in an upcoming HBO documentary, saying, "About two years ago, I was pregnant for the first time and I heard the heartbeat, which was the most beautiful music I ever heard in my life. I picked out names, I envisioned what my child would look like . . . I was feeling very maternal. I flew back to New York to get my checkup — and no heartbeat. Literally the week before I went to the doctor, everything was fine, but there was no heartbeat.

"I went into the studio and wrote the saddest song I've ever written in my life. And it was actually the first song I wrote for my album. And it was the best form of therapy for me, because it was the saddest thing I've ever been through."

Kirstie Alley ties her 1990 miscarriage to her years-long battle with her weight. In her 2005 book How to Lose Your Ass & Regain Your Life: Reluctant Confessions of a Big-Butted Star the actress wrote:

When the baby was gone, I just didn't really get over it. Neither did my body. I so thoroughly convinced my body that it was still pregnant after nine months that I had milk coming from my breasts. I was still fat, I was still grieving, and I had just been told it was very possible I would never be able to have children. Fat, childless, with little hope for any future children . . . that's when I began to get fat.

General Hospital star Kimberly McCullough broke the news of her pregnancy and her miscarriage in a heartfelt post on her personal blog. Writing about the sadness she experienced throughout the year — including the death of her beloved dog — Kimberly candidly shared:

"My heart was so full and then it broke. It was too much. I didn’t need to learn this lesson. I wasn’t interested. But I wasn’t in control. These things happen and no, I don’t believe they happen ‘for a reason.’ I’m still processing, still healing, but anyone who has gone through it knows, losing a baby at 22 weeks is tragic. One thing I am proud of however was that I allowed myself to be happy and to relish the moment. I sat in all that goodness and I can recall those feelings (when I’m having different ones) and hope that it can be like that again.”
