Home Is Where the Birth Is! 18 Celebrities Who’ve Had Babies at Home

Home is where the heart is, and where many expectant moms — including celebrity moms! — are choosing to have their babies. Home births have gotten more and more popular over the years and appeal to a wide range of women for a number of reasons. For some, the experience at home feels more comfortable and serene (though sometimes, things don't work out as planned), and for others, it feels more private and intimate.

Regardless of the main reasons behind their choice, there have been a bunch of celebrity moms who have gone the home birth route. Read more about them and their experiences ahead.

Hilary Duff

Hilary Duff gave birth to her second child, Banks Violet, at home. In an "extremely personal" post to Instagram, Hilary shared a video from right after Banks was born. "It was so absolutely lovely and rewarding (and shocking) that after giving birth to my baby girl we hugged . . . for the first time, In my mind I like to believe that she was saying: 'Good job, mom. Go team go. We did it. Together.'"

Alanis Morissette

Both of Alanis Morissette's kids, Ever and Onyx, were born at home. In an interview with Self, the singer, who is expecting her third child, said of birthing Onyx alone with her husband, Souleye: "Hearing his voice was so beautiful. . . hearing him say 'Okay, breathe in.'"

Gisele Bündchen

When Gisele Bündchen and Tom Brady were ready to welcome baby Benjamin, they headed to the bathtub in their Beacon Hill home in Boston for the main event. Gisele recalled, "Giving birth was the most intense and life-changing experience of my life. I am blessed to have had the opportunity to deliver at home, surrounded by love and where I felt safe. It was a really great experience. I never felt so vulnerable but so strong at the same time."

Gisele is also believed to have given birth to baby Vivian at home in late 2012.

Erika Christensen

Erika Christensen's second baby was born at home — though that wasn't the plan! On Aug. 10, 2018, Erika's daughter Polly made a surprise appearance and had to be delivered by her dad, Cole Maness. "It happened! It happened this morning. And it will go down in family history because babygirl's own, incredible Dad delivered her all by himself," she wrote on Instagram. "My fault, as I didn't know she would come so quickly and didn't call the doc until far too late. . . Mom immediately took this picture. So epic."

Lisa Bonet was such a fan of the home-birthing experience that she did it thrice! First with daughter Zoë Kravitz in 1988, and more recently with her two children, Lola and Wolf, who she shares with actor Jason Momoa.

Seth Meyers's Wife, Alexi

Seth Meyers's wife, Alexi Ashe, kind of had her baby at home — it actually went down in the lobby of their apartment building, as their second son, Axel Strahl, just couldn't wait! He said on Late Night of the frantic chain of events: "I called 911 and over the course of a minute conversation, I said, 'We're about to have a baby; we're having a baby; we had a baby.' I went from someone calling in about an emergency to just sharing good news with a stranger."

James Van Der Beek's Wife, Kimberly

James Van Der Beek and his wife, Kimberly, welcomed their fifth child, a baby girl named Gwendolyn, on June 15, 2018. The baby girl was born at home, and James shared a behind-the-scenes photo in the days that followed. "The category is: Home-Birth Realness," he wrote on Instagram.

It was at the end of 30 hours of labor and eight hours of pushing, which is the part that I don't know if men will fully grasp, but mothers out there, hours of pushing!"

A small spurt of blood startled him, and he promptly asked my husband to finish the job . . . Miles then sat down on the floor and, minutes later, was handed a bundled-up, wide-eyed baby brother. He clung to that baby for enough minutes that the midwife had to separate them."
