It is a well known fact that many women tear during vaginal deliveries. While stitching and kegels may help in the reparations, some mothers opt to have their lady parts surgically reconstructed. A mother of two, Violet Estrada, told surgeon David Matlock that she wanted to feel like a 14-year-old again. Fulfilling her desires, he performed a procedure that tightened her genitals. There are many things about labor that you can't possibly imagine until you've experienced them. One of the best-kept dirty secrets — poop! I thought I was just having stomach issues when I went into labor, which is unusual for me.

Delivering a human being vaginally will forever change a woman's anatomy — for better or worse. For one woman who gave birth to 10 and 12-pound babies, the alterations were noticeable. Wanting to regain her prebaby bod, she consulted surgeon David Matlock. The two appeared on The View and discussed the reasons for and results of the procedure. All in a day's work, Dr. Matlock performed surgery on mother of two Violet Estrada to tighten her vaginal muscles. Cohost Elisabeth Hasselbeck wondered why kegels wouldn't have the same results. If you think condoms only have one purpose, you are sorely (and I mean sorely) mistaken. One of the "treats" that the nurses quickly introduced me to in the maternity ward after delivering my baby was the genius ice diaper. An instant pain reliever, not every new mother is lucky enough to receive such pampered treatment.

Do You Think "Choosy Mothers Choose Caesareans"?

When my mother was having children doctors didn't offer the option of having a planned caesarean section — it was just something that happened when the woman went into labor and complications arose. Today, women are more apt to debate the benefits and risks of vaginal births and caesarean sections, so much so that Time Magazine recently reported "Choosy Mothers Choose Caesareans." Here's more:

On the medical side, better anesthesia and antibiotics are making the procedure safer. Add to that the growing number of women delaying childbirth, those having twins or triplets as a result of in vitro fertilization and America's exploding obesity epidemic — all of which increase the risks of vaginal delivery...In an increasingly technological and medicalized society, maybe even childbirth is losing some of its magic and becoming less about the miracle of life and more about simply getting a baby out safely and without incident.

According to Time, rates of C-sections have been climbing every year in the past decade in the US, reaching a high of 31percent of all live births in 2006. That's a 50 percent increase since 1996. It's not just in the US though, apparently in certain hospitals in Brazil, 80 percent of babies are delivered by caesarean.Source

Yes. I get that it makes "deliveries less eventful" and may be easier on the mom long term.

No. A caesarean is a serious procedure. Mothers pick it because it's what's right for the baby, not because it's easier.

Perhaps. I see where someone might elect to have a C-Section in advance but I don't think it's about being "choosy."
