Spice Girls Musical in the Works: Brilliant or Baffling?
Here's a blast from the '90s past: American Idol creator Simon Fuller is working on a Spice Girls musical for the stage, with the working title of "Viva Forever."
Fuller is collaborating with Judy Craymer, who is behind the Mamma Mia musical, so it's being speculated that the show will use Spice Girls music the way Mamma Mia used ABBA's songs (and not star the actual band members). I may or may not have bought several Spice Girls singles back in the day and dressed up with my friends as each member, and 15-year-old me might be excited about this one.
Hope! Obama Musical to Debut in Germany
It's springtime for Obama as a telling the story of his ascent to power in song and dance debuts in Germany. Hope! will feature roles including Barack and Michelle, a much-younger Hillary Clinton and John McCain, and of course Sarah Palin, whose solo includes scantily clad backup singers.

You know the scene in My Best Friend's Wedding when the dude pretending to be with Julia Roberts breaks into song while smack in the middle of a speech, and as Hollywood would have it, the whole table joins in? The peeps below made the scene a little less Hollywood and a little more Broadway. They had a fantastic performance, but I wanna know how everyone in attendance at this wedding (even the father of the groom!) had a voice fit for singing.
The Food Court Musical
Improv Everywhere is known for busting out comedic performances in unlikely locations, so they staged a musical — in a shopping mall food court. It all started with the Hot Dog on a Stick girl crying over spilled lemonade and ended with the whole food court triumphantly singing about napkin shortage. Hungry patrons, clueless that the joke was on them, didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
Which TV Show Will Announce a Musical Next?
Apparently, musical episodes of TV shows are the new black. I told you a while back that "Ugly Betty" was mulling a musical episode, and now, according to Variety, "Desperate Housewives" creator Marc Cherry is thinking about getting Wisteria Lane to sing and dance, too. If one more show breaks into song, I'll be ready to declare this a full-out trend.
