As with most of these lists, they are so subjective. You caught a lot of my favorites (Eternal Sunshine and Amelie would be very high for me and I haven't seen Brokeback) and some that I
didn't care for (Lost in Translation just didn't do it for me). A few of my favs that didn't make the cut (in no particular order): Billy Elliot, Love Actually, Moulin Rouge, Big Fish, Garden
State, Finding Nemo and Anchorman would be my pick for best screwball comedy. I'm sure there are others, but those are a few .
I think that a lot of my favorites were missed on this list along with many of my favorites. Notable ones missing are Moulin Rouge, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Pan's Labyrinth,
Atonement, The Golden Compass and the last two Star Wars Prequels (although, I would count the first one which was released in 1999). How can you forget the Prequels?!
kismekate--Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle are Studio Ghibli films and are directed by Hayao Miyazaki. If you've seen My Neighbor Totoro, Castle in the Sky or Kiki's Delivery Service
(or this year's Ponyo), they're all done by Miyazaki.
I really liked the Golden Compass, actually. I was very nervous as it's my favorite series of all time (I have a few others, but if I were stuck on an island and could choose only one series,
that would be it) but I was generally pleased with the adaption. I loved they got Nicole Kidman to star as Mrs. Coulter, as she matches exactly the picture in my head as I read it.
I agree wholeheartedly with Almost Famous, Amélie, Juno, Lost In Translation and The Dark Knight. I liked The Departed, The Pursuit of Happyness and Brokeback Mountain as well but they don't
belong to my favorites of the decade. Still a good list, though.
I didn't particularly like "Lost in Translation," but otherwise, excellent picks! If it were my list, I would have swapped "Inglourious Bastards," for "Kill Bill Vol. 2."
Look, I agree with everyone out there that these top (insert number) lists are subjective. However, I can tell you two things about the lists of this particular decade that are not up for
debate. First, if a person doesn't have "City of God" on their list, don't bother reading it; the creator of said list obviously can't teach you anything about movies. Second, if a list must
include a Charlie Kaufman movie--mind you it doesn't have to--it should be "Adaptation". That movie was one million times better than "Eternal Sunshine."
My 3 all time favorite movies (Little Miss Sunshine, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Juno) all made it in this list. I also loved Brokeback Mountain, Harry Potter, LOTR, Amelie and
of course the Royal Tenenbaums. So can't believe I'm saying but I pretty much agree with your list
Momento and Almost Famous were last decade. The current decade began in 2001 and will end on Dec 31, 2010. There is no zero point in time. On that note, it's also a little premature to make
this list.
Not a bad list, but Ocean's 11, Lost in Translatuion, and the Harry Potter series have absolutely no business being on it. The only Harry Potter movie that should even be considered is the
Prisoner of Azkaban. I personally thought Pursuit of Happyness was garbage, and Juno was just completely overrated. Mean Girls is a quality film, very entertaining and funny, but top 20 in
the decade? I think Batman Begins belongs on this list, along with Inglorious Basterds, and The Hangover is certainly one of the funniest movies I have seen this decade. Slumdog Millianaire,
Moulin Rouge!, Gladiator, and Catch Me If You Can (maybe) all belong on this list as well.
LMAO on comments on what deserves to be on Buzz's favorite movies. News flash - the writer gets to decide her own favorite movies. Write your own list and blog it if you feel so inclined.
...oceans eleven? pursuit of happyness? try adaptation, burn before reading, tim burton's alice in wonderland, avatar...this list is premature...and, i'm not anonymous....
...so, what are you saying? no critique allowed on the list? get real! this is a message board...if you just want to sit around and compliment each other, you should make that clear...boring,
a little fascist, even, but hey, be my guest...
out of all the movies included in the list i prefer the best is The dark Knight esp. the joker, i am jusy in love with the charachter, followed by hans landa of the ingloreous basterds, then
the rest
A decent list, but there are definately some ehh choses. The lack of non-English language films is a bit daunting as well. My top forty best films of the decade are:
1. Lost in Translation
2. Almost Famous
3. Y Tu Mama Tambien
4. Mulholland Drive
5. Ghost World
6. The Wrestler
7. Pan’s Labyrinth
8. Traffic

10. The Squid and the Whale / City of God
11. Sideways
12. Pride & Prejudice
13. WALL*E
14. American Splendor

22. Wit
23. In America
24. Minority Report
25. Spiderman 2
26. Memento

36. A Serious Man

a very poor list in m opinion.
come on guys-mean girls?WTF???it's a stupid b-movie that isnt even funny and is terribly acted.40 year old virgin?? little miss sunshine?! where are the serious good films-no country for old
men, there will be blood, donnie darko, minority report????
This has to be the lamest movie list of the decade. Ocean's 11, The Dark Night and Memento. All over-hyped. I am surprised Crash did not make the list, another film that did not deserve
mention. What about City of God or Match Point.
I may be older but what the hell kind of decade list is this my mother wouldn't watch half these what ever happend to the block buster movies like tombraider, transformers the twilightsaga
movies or the movies people really pay to see even the blind side
Excellent list! Although, there's just tooo many great movies this past decade to have a full agreement from everyone. Ha. I agree with this list, it def leads towards my own tastes. I'll
have to check out High Fidelity...but I would've tried my darndest to squeeze Children of Men/City of God/Oldboy/Miyazaki's in there...okay, truth is there's waaaay too many to make everyone
happy!
Well, 40 year old Virgin surely should NOT belong here. Mean girls, what??? I'd include Cache (Hidden), Children of Men surely, Kingdom of Heaven (uncut version) and NOT Gladiator, 500 days
of Summer, Donnie Darko, The taste of others (French), 4 (Russian), Mulholland Drive, Match Point, Kill Bill 2, Pan's Labyrinth and yes, the first Pirates of the Caribbean. So I guess my list
would be very different.
Oh, and anonymous, comment 22, you're wrong. The new millennium began in 2001. The century began in 2001. But the decade began in 2000. Think about it. You're saying that 2000 was in "the
90's". And 1990 would then be in "the 80's". And I was born in 1980. So I guess according to you I was born in the 70's, eh? Sounds pretty absurd when I say it like that.
Now that I think about it, what happened to Donnie Darko? That was the best movie of the decade and it's not on here? What is this, a list of the movies that made the most money?
The one film I disagree with on the list is The Departed.
The film is overrated and it's winning the Oscar was just a
cancellation prize for it's director.
Avatar?? This movie is in top 20 of the decade only for trolls. Its script is at a level apt for teenagers and any movie watched in 3D offers similar excitement. Oh and I forgot to include
"Oldboy" - an exceptional cinematic feast/beast.
Buzz, as much as I love these recaps, clicking thru slideshows is really annoying! I end up reading much less stuff than I'd like, I'm not sure this is what you guys were going for...
They released a really superficial list. These have all been mentioned already, but here's some more appropriate titles...obviously I don't think that they should all be on a favorites list,
as it is totally subjective, but I would have liked to have seen some of these instead of mediocre blockbusters like the Harry Potter series, the 40 Year Old Virgin, or Mean Girls (especially
instead of Mean Girls...).
City of God
Pan's Labyrinth
Mulholland Drive
The Diving Bell And The Butterfly
No Country For Old Men
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
Children of Men
The Pianist
Oldboy
Let the Right One In
Requiem For a Dream
Cache
I would throw in "The Fall" and "The Proposition" as well, but that's my personal taste. Also, I saw someone throwing hate at Lost In Translation. To each his own, but that movie is a gem if
I've ever seen one.
Seeing "Mean Girls" in a top of the decade list has really hurt my conscience. Then again this list means jack and squat in the grand scheme of how the public will view this last decade's
films, so I can only hope it will be different than how this article sees things.
But, if the decade started Jan. 2000 and ends Jan 2011, that would be eleven, not ten years. So, no, the decade ends Jan 2010....anyway, I would not put mean girls on there at all, and I
definitely would include No Country for Old Men. American Psycho needs to be on there too, in my opinion, but no Batman Begins. District 9, as well! And I definitely agree with Old Boy.
