Recently I found out that one of my longtime students has been battling cancer for the last few years.

After a long day of taking care of her children, the last thing many moms may choose to do is sit down and watch a show about pediatric cancer patients. But if it's anything like the upcoming Nickelodeon special, The Face of Courage: Kids Living with Cancer (premiering Sunday, Jan. 24, at 8 p.m.) she might change her mind.

The discrepancy between death statistics for African-American women and white women diagnosed with breast cancer is startling. Black women are twice as likely to die of cancer as white women.
Mobile Phones "Have Not Increased Brain Cancers" — BBC
Danish researchers have concluded that cell phones do not increase brain cancer risk, since there has been no large rise in reported brain tumors since mobile phones became a mass market item.

Cell phone use causing cancer — certainly not something we haven't heard before and not something that is going away anytime soon. First we learn that the electromagnetic radiation from cell phones doesn't cause cancer and when I asked you if you were worried about your cell phone increasing your risk of getting cancer, most of you said no.

Add this to your list of reasons to live healthily: more research is showing that exercising, maintaining a healthy weight, and avoiding excessive alcohol can help prevent breast cancer. According to data released today from the World Cancer Research Fund charity, at least four out of 10 breast cancer cases in the UK could be prevented by healthy lifestyle changes.
The conclusions are based on data culled from 950 research papers around the world.

If you live in a city, you know firsthand about air pollution. Eighty different cancer-causing pollutants ca be found in the air, and they're increasing many individuals' risk for developing cancer. According to the National-Scale Air Toxics Assessment released by the EPA, nearly 600 neighborhoods across the US exceed a 100 in one million cancer risk.
