With food festival season winding down for the year, there are certainly fewer events this month. Still, if you look hard enough, you can find a few gems, like the International Tamale Festival in Indio, CA, or Sonoma Valley's Blessing of the Olives. Or, enjoy one of the many holiday wine events, where perhaps you can find that perfect pairing for your holiday dinner.

This week is all about quality over quantity: There aren't as many festivals on our radar, but all of them are can't-miss events. The Giant Omelette Celebration is sure to be an egg-cellent time. Now that we have yet another excuse to drink beer, let's enjoy some at the Great World Beer Fest.

In my family, we've had a holiday tradition of making tamales for as long as I can remember. My grandmother has aged and no longer holds the position of Reyna Tamalera (translation: Queen Tamale Maker), but my mother has stepped in. And the younger generations of our family are getting in on the action, too.

When my friends and I go camping, the food planning comes first. Once we've figured out who's making every appetizer, cocktail, main dish, and dessert, we focus on other details like who's bringing bug spray and how to get where we're going.
So for this week's campfire fiesta, I'm forgoing invitations in favor of a flurry of emails to work out the logistics.

It's a tale that'll go down in burger history. At an event this week in London, Guinness World Records revealed a host of new record breakers, among them a 185-pound, $499 whopper of a hamburger, which is officially the world's largest. The record belongs to Mallie's Sports Grill and Bar in Southgate, MI.

CinnamonPixie took off for classes and to meet up with her best friend for coffee looking like a hot tamale! I love the rocker edge her belt lends to the already bold outfit.
Here's what she has on:
- Sweater: Zara
- Dress: H&M
- Belt: Unknown
- Tights: Unknown
- Boots: Musette
- Bracelets: Accessorize
- Necklace: Vintage
Congrats to CinnamonPixie!

Dear Sugar
I am a pretty thin, young woman (105 lbs.) and during my "blossoming" years my butt and hips seemed to be the only parts of my body that grew.
Recently, I've noticed light but visible stretch marks on my butt and hips. I never thought that I'd have this problem since I've always been thin.

To many of this country's home cooks, Mexican food is a genre reserved for dining out and perhaps the occasional Americanized taco night. But one nutritionist, Lourdes Castro, wants to change that with her new book, Simply Mexican ($16.47). Castro, who is neither a trained chef nor Mexican herself, aims to teach readers how to enjoy the authentic flavors of Mexico using techniques such as roasting, grilling, and stewing.

Since Spring finally Sprung, I have been wanting bright colors everywhere — from my fingers and toes to my Nintendo DSi and bluetooth earpieces. That means it's time to retire my boring old iPhone case and get a neon upgrade.
The Fluro Slider Case for the iPhone 3G is one hot tamale, coming in lime, neon orange, and hot pink for $35 each (leave it to the hot pink to be currently unavailable).

Calcium does the body good. Not only does it build strong bones and teeth, it aids with muscle function and helps keep your heart beating regularly. While there are plenty of food sources for this bone-building mineral other than dairy, I am not sure I have been meeting the recommended daily intake (RDI) of 1,000 milligrams.
