We're used to seeing dark roots on all the chemically assisted blondes in Hollywood, but lately things are going the other way — women with naturally light hair are going dark and showing off their much lighter roots as their hair grows out. Kristen Stewart, Lindsay Lohan, and Agyness Deyn are all sporting the look. It's an interesting reversal that's sure to garner mixed reactions.

L'Oréal's new INOA (Innovation No Ammonia) permanent dye is debuting to a lot of fanfare, since ammonia is not only damaging to your hair shaft, but it's bad for your health as well. Only thing is, ammonia-free permanent colors have existed for years already — they just never caught on in most salons. And L'Oreal's even put out an ammonia-free permanent color before: Natural Match, which was available cheaply for home coloring and got discontinued just before INOA's debut.

Many of us have, at some time or other, lightened our hair, and more than a few have probably gone blond. But although a lot of us have been flaxen-haired at some point or another, I'm betting our reasons for doing so vary pretty widely. Some people go blond to cover up gray hair, some just want add a little contrast, and some want to feel like Marilyn Monroe.

Just in case you thought dyeing your hair gray was only for 20 year-old models, Kate Moss has proven that grown-up lady models can do it as well by showing up with subtle gray streaks to a Longchamp event last night. I admire Kate's total fearlessness when it comes to personal style, and I like that she incorporated the gray without dousing her head in Manic Panic, but do you think this is a good look for her? Or for any PYT, for that matter?

Going darker or redder, like Scarlett did in January, is the traditional seasonal change to make to your hair. But I don't see as many people doing it as often as magazines suggest. I don't know that I usually think about seasonal propriety when I get my hair done, but maybe I should.

This is a phenomenon I've discussed with a couple of friends, but I want to get your opinion on it. Whenever I dye my hair a drastically different color — going really red, say — I still see myself with my original color in my mind's eye. And when I try to think about myself objectively, to decide whether a color or a certain hairstyle would look good on me, I have a really difficult time picturing myself as I now look, instead of continuing to see myself as I looked before.

Coloring your hair is really common, whether it be to add mahogany highlights or hide strands of gray. In fact, nearly 70 percent of American women religiously visit the salon to alter their look, but, as I'm sure many of you have asked, is the beauty practice safe? Quite a few studies have found no connection between coloring your hair and cancer, and multiple studies have looked specifically at breast, bladder, and brain cancer finding no connection to these specific types either.

Julia Roberts recently sported a lil patch of pink hair and attributed the hued lock to her daughter, Hazel. The three year-old thought pastel tresses would look good on her mommy, so the actress obliged with a few colored strands.
If the look wasn't dramatically different, would you do this for your child?

Does being with babe mean two-tone hair color, noticeable roots or having to go gray?
While pregnant, I worried about my vanity and any possible implications that chemical hair dyes would have on my growing child. After chatting with my OB/GYN and my hairdresser, I opted for highlights, as they don't saturate the scalp as much as a full coverage dye.
