Bill Gates Dethroned as World's Richest Man

Microsoft founder, Sundance table-dancer, Facebook-phobe, and billionaire Bill Gates is no longer the world's richest man, according to Forbes Magazine's 2010 Billionaires List. Even though his wealth rose by billions to hit $53 billion this year, he was out-billionaired by Mexico's Carlos Slim Helu, a telecom mogul who beat Gates's wealth by a mere half-billion dollars. Meanwhile, red-carpet walking Steve Jobs comes in at 136.

While Bill may no longer be the richest man in the world, he's certainly been keeping busy. Facebook may intimidate him, but he has joined Twitter and started a blog to highlight his foundation's work. And even though he's officially stepped down from his post at Microsoft, I'm sure we'll be hearing a lot more about his future endeavors for a long time.

Does Your City Stress You Out?

Your city's plummeting property values, high unemployment rate, extreme weather, or chronic traffic could potentially stress you out. Some metropolises have a perfect storm of frustrating factors that landed them on Forbes's list of America's Most Stressful Cities.

Coming in at number one is Chicago, thanks to the city's poor air quality, 11 percent unemployment rate, and falling home prices. Los Angeles comes next, then New York, Cleveland, and Providence, RI.

My current place of residence, San Francisco, ranks number six, but I beg to differ with its stressful status. Besides worrying about the next big earthquake, I find that my city's passable public transportation, moderate climate, and breathtaking views make me feel more relaxed.

Forbes released its annual list of the world's 100 most powerful women this week. Taking the number one spot for the fourth year in a row is German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the leader of the world's fourth largest economy. Female CEOs and political leaders also made the list that included Melinda Gates (number 34), Hillary Clinton (number 36), and Michelle Obama (number 40).

Of course, you don't have to be a conventionally powerful person to make a big impact. Of all the women I know, I'd say my wise and patient mother has had the most positive influence on my life. What about you? What woman has influenced your life the most?

For the sixth year in a row, Forbes has rounded up its list of the world's most powerful women. It measures influence by scoring each female leader on visibility (not to be mistaken for popularity) and the size of the organization or country these women lead. The top spot remains unchanged from the previous three years, and German Chancellor Angela Merkel sits at number one of 100 for leading the fourth largest economy in the world.

Notable American newcomers to the 2009 rankings include Michele Obama who debuted at number 40 (just ahead of Oprah Winfrey at 41 and Britain's Queen Elizabeth at 42); Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor at 54; Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius at 56; Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano at 51; and Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Mary Schapiro at 55. Forbes released its annual Top-Earning Hollywood Actresses list based on the salaries they acquired from June 2008 to June 2009. Angelina Jolie earned the most with $27 million, narrowly beating out Jennifer Aniston, who brought in $25 million. Meryl, SJP, and last year's winner, Cameron, made the top five while Sandra, Reese, Nicole, Drew, and Renée rounded out the 10, which included a few ties. Many of these ladies have had blockbuster hits this past year, and Reese and Nicole were number one in 2007 and 2006 respectively.
