Rather than going out to buy something for your sweetheart, stay in and bake these homemade Milano cookies. Everyone is familiar with the delicious Pepperidge Farms treats, with their crisp and crumbly cookies sandwiching a thin layer of chocolate. However, the homemade variation takes the cake — or that is, the cookie!

The cookies are the star of a cookie exchange, so if you're hosting one, be sure to set out plenty of platters. When guests arrive, give them a serving tray and have them arrange their cookies, placing cards with the name of each cookie nearby. Also stock up on takeout containers and cardboard boxes so everyone has a place to put their newfound treats.

By the time the actual day of Christmas rolled around I was so over baking that I didn't want to make dessert for my own dinner. Instead of dealing with mounds of flour or cookie cutters, I just wanted to relax and watch the yule log on TV. Weeks earlier I was given a box of all-natural oatmeal chocolate chip cookie mix from Kodiak Cakes, which seemed perfect given my laziness on Christmas morning.

There are a few bright spots in every Winter, namely the following, in no particular order: snow sports, the Super Bowl, hot cocktails, and Girl Scout cookie season. But sadly, my attempts to track down cookies this year have been in vain, as I haven't seen so much as a single Daisy, Brownie, or Junior anywhere in the Bay Area.
To remedy the situation, I took matters into my own hands with a homemade variation of the Caramel DeLite, or Samoa, the Girl Scout cookie to end all other Girl Scout cookies.

During December, many people host cookie swaps. Organizing a festive cookie party is a great way to cut back on your holiday baking. Instead of making a million cookies, you and your friends each bake a different cookie.

One of my good friends was recently explaining how much she missed her Norwegian grandmother's Christmas cookies. She recalled them as a simple butter cookie marked by her grandmother's thumbprint and sprinkled in sugar. I took note of all of the details and luckily, I was able to find a recipe that matched her description.

Last weekend I was feeling pretty stressed out for some reason... and when I'm stressed, I feel the need to cook just about ANYTHING.
Since I haven't baked any cookies for a while (went cake crazy) I decided cookies it is!

Almond Lace Cookies
These Tuscan cookies are a Christmas classic. They're nutty, lacy and crisp, as well as deceptively simple to make. Drizzle them with chocolate for a perfect holiday indulgence.

Moravian Spice Cookie Waffers
From Food Network Kitchens
This cookie comes to us from North Carolina by way of Central Europe; it's a classic, peppery spice cookie brought to the U.S. by Moravians in the 1700s. The key to this cookie is rolling it super-thin to get that characteristic snap; it's a lot easier to roll it that thin between waxed paper.
