Are Party Favors Necessary?

At the end of every birthday party, there comes that moment where the invited guests start looking toward the door. Before saying thank-you and filing out, they pause, knowing that there is one last party ritual to go through before heading home – the goody bag.

Party favors are supposed to serve as a token of thanks for attending a tot's celebration. While some families opt for bags prefilled with candy and dollar store items others go more elaborate, giving children personalized gifts that tie in with the overall party theme on their way out the door. Even the best-behaved child can turn into a greedy, present-starved monster when the favors come out.

Tired of finding little plastic trinkets scattered about their cars and playrooms, some parents simply toss the bags in the nearest receptacle, while others have chosen to forgo the practice of handing the goody bags out altogether.

What's your opinion on loot bags?

Source

Mommy Dearest: How Do I Handle Special Needs at My Party?

Mommy Dearest –

I am planning a gym party for my son's upcoming fifth birthday and am having an internal dilemma about whether or not to invite one particular child. The child in question has special needs that often involve her not listening well to instructions. At our party last year, the child did not listen to the teacher's directions and ended up interfering with the other children's art projects. When the teacher said something to her, her parents ended up yelling at the teacher for "coaching" their special needs child. I'm nervous about inviting them to the party this year because of the somewhat rowdy nature of a gym party, but at the same time, don't want the child to be left out just because of her differences.

What would you do?

– Should I Include Mommy

To see the response from Mommy Dearest, read more.

Dear Should I Include Mommy,

It does sound like the child has a special circumstance that needs tending to. Her parents should know better than to yell at the party coaches during someone else's party. You have the right idea to include her so she doesn't feel left out. By inviting her, you are teaching your son, and the other children there, that everyone deserves to be included in a celebration. That said, I suggest notifying the coaches at the gym about the situation ahead of time. I am sure they have handled similar situations before and by giving them advance notice, they can better prepare for possible scenarios with her parents.

– Mommy Dearest

21st Birthday Party

I'm turning 21 on May 1 and it just hit me that it's almost here! Unfortunately, I have two exams on the day after my birthday so I won't be able to go downtown with my friends. Instead, I want to have a house party on the Saturday night after my birthday.

Did any of you have an awesome 21st birthday party or have you attended one? What do you think made it great?

I think I've decided I'm going to make it "casino" themed since 21 is winning in blackjack. This actually started as a joke when I told my friend I was going to make her boyfriend where a sign that says "Busted" at my party since he's turning 23 a couple days before me. This theme also works well since one of my friends has been wanting to throw a "classy" party for awhile.

For decorations, my friends and I are going to blow up red, black and white balloons to cover the floor of the living room. People probably won't be playing card games, unless they're drinking games (this is a college party, after all).

What drinks should be served to keep with this theme (so far I have a keg planned which isn't very classy haha)? Do you have any other ideas or tips that will help me plan?

Thanks guys!

Birthday Party and Uninvited Guests: What Would You Do?

Can a mom and her kids have their cake and eat it too? My daughter gets invited to a lot of school birthday parties and many require that parents accompany the children. Most celebrations are on Saturdays when my husband works so I've got all three of my kids in tow. Usually thrown at venues, the festivities have per child rates attached to them. Toting my newborn is no big deal since he can't participate, but it'd be rude to bring my 3-year-old. It also seems ridiculous to hire a $20 an hour babysitter to watch my sons while I take my kindergartner to a two or three-hour party. What would you do in this situation?

Lots of moms find themselves in need of advice outside their own circle of friends so join the What Would You Do? group over in our LilSugar Community and talk about the situations that leave you wondering what to do.

Sponsors needed for Lindsay Lohan’s 22nd birthday party

Lohan is turning 22 on July 2nd, and it seems she hasn’t got enough cash to throw a party. So, she’s asking for some sponsorship for the drugs and booze she’s planning on indulging in. Lindsay’s people have set up a website detailing just what the birthday girl has planned. They’re calling it ‘Lindsay Lohan’s Mo-Rockin’ 22nd Birthday’.

“Sponsors will have a unique branding opportunity to an internationally media worthy event. Lindsay and her 10 closes girlfriends will start the celebration in the early afternoon with spa treatments including manicures, facials and massages.

“Upon nightfall an intimate group of 75 VIP guests will gather for dinner, performances and most importantly to help Lindsay blow out the candles on her 22nd Birthday cake.”

Talent Resources

If you do sponsor Lindsay’s 22nd, you’ll get logos on the invite and signage at the venue (a private Malibu mansion). You’ll also get inclusion in the gift bags, inclusion in the media materials, and your product will be placed in a ‘hospitality suite’.

The site also has a link to coverage of Lindsay’s 20th birthday party in Life & Style Magazine. They don’t provide links to pictures of Lindsay stumbling out of clubs, or her mug shot.

I don’t understand why Lindsay Lohan, who has been treated at three different rehab facilities this year, would ask for sponsorship of a party. Particularly when she blew off her 21st birthday party in favor of some time at Promises Rehab facility. If she winds up in rehab again, will the sponsors get their money back? Can’t she do what regular people do - and quite a few celebrities - and just throw her own private party, and pay for it herself?

Lindsay’s movie career is not exactly flourishing (she has one movie this year lined up, and one for 2009) maybe she should just try and lay low for a while, and concentrate on her acting. Otherwise she’s going to wind up begging her mum for some screen time on her reality series.

According to TMZ no alcohol brands will be sponsoring the event. This doesn’t mean that alcohol won’t be served.

http://www.celeb*tchy.com/11774/sponsors_needed_for_lindsay_lohans_22nd_...

Kevin Federline and Shar Jackson hook up at his birthday party

The FedEx received anywhere from $100,000 to $300,000 to attend his own comped 30th birthday party at Pure Nightclub at Ceasars Palace on Friday night. For an amount that most people would gleefully accept for a year’s worth of forty hour weeks slaving away in a cubicle, Federline downed shots and hung out with his friends, including his ex and the mother of two of his children, Shar Jackson. Shar and K-Fed looked cozier than you would expect for supposedly estranged co-parents, and many whispered that there was something going on there:

The Federline clan was joined by Jackson and a gaggle of her girlfriends for a birthday dinner at the swank Social House before heading to Pure, where they downed Jack Daniel’s and Patron shots in the white leather VIP booth. The Pussycat Dolls sang K-Fed a saucy rendition of “Happy Birthday” as Jackson snuggled close to her ex. “They looked like a couple again,” our spy said. By 2 a.m. the whole party decamped to late-night lounge Noir Bar inside Luxor.

Spawn Sean Preston and Jayden James were away with a sitter allowing their dear dad to party all night long.

[From The NY Daily News]

Shar has almost always been gracious and kind to her ex in the press, most recently explaining his weight gain as “daddy weight.” If my partner left me when I was heavily pregnant it’s not likely that I would have a kind word to say about him for years. Jackson is more forward-thinking than I am, though, and has easily prevailed in the battle of the baby mommas. She has the dubious prize of staying in K-Fed’s good graces and probably hooking up with him when it’s convenient, something that Britney is said to yearn for despite the fact that the rest of the world finds K-Fed and his duck’s ass haircut laughable.

Shar may have another reason for keeping the FedEx fat and satisfied. She is said to be launching a hip hop album after she won on VH1’s “Celebrity Rap Superstar.” Maybe K-Fed still has connections in the music industry despite his lack of talent and the dismal performance of his album. The guy is getting paid six figures to party for a night, which seems to indicate that he has more skills than you might give him credit for.

But clearly those skills aren’t in rapping or hosting parties, just getting paid for it. Here’s a video from the night in question. The crowd boos K-Fed when he tries to talk or yell or whatever it is he’s doing.

Kiddie Soiree: Birthdays Cost More Than a Couple Bucks

Suri Cruise had a second birthday fete that would break most people's piggy banks, but some parents shell out bucks because there is no other option.

For urban dwellers living in tight spaces, children's birthday parties are a necessary splurge. It's one thing if your lil darling made his or her debut during the warm weather months as you can throw their soiree at the local park or playground. And, it's quite another when you can't rely on the climate forecast. To see what my options are, read more.

My son is a November baby who turns two in a matter of weeks so we'll be inviting twenty of his buddies and their parents to a get together. Our flat cannot accommodate the number of kids, let alone parents, so we looked into other options. The price of park and rec club houses rival those of indoor playgrounds so we've decided on one that allows the kids to play for two hours before they are escorted to a festive room for the lunch hour and cake. Our no frills, but plenty of thrills party for our lil guy will likely set us back twelve hundred dollars. Before becoming a mom, I would have thought the expenditure was insane. Now, having planned six parties between my two kids, I realize it's the economical option. I can't wait until we own a house and throw basic pin-the-tail on the donkey and face paint parties in the backyard and basement.
Birthday Party Dilemma

My 81 year old Grandma shares a birthday with me. As a matter of fact my mom went into labor at her party. I absolutely adore my Grandma and don't get to see her much. I'm going to visit on my birthday (Which is also her birthday) but just found out from my father that my aunt is throwing her a birthday party that day. I kind of feel awkward going now because my other family members don't really bother even getting to know me, never have and probably never will. I'm afraid I'm going to go and everyone is going to forget it's my birthday. It's going to be my 20th birthday and I'm really excited about it. I just don't want to go and feel ignored on such a special day. I also don't want people thinking I'm going just for gifts or money. I can't help my Grandma shares the same birthday as me! I actually really like it because I think It's really unique and bonds us. What should I do?

That's two in a row! Pure Nightclub had to cancel her 21st because she was such a mess, and things aren't looking good for this year's bash either.

Lindsay's team had hired Mike Heller Talent Resources to sponsor her party, but now they're saying since Lilo couldn't commit to a specific date, the party is off. Yeah, nice excuse!

That's what you get for trying to get someone to pay for your own party!

Well, it seems like lately we have been going to so many toddler's birthday parties. And, every single one has had some sort of theme. The most recent were Buzz Lightyear, Wiggles and Clifford. Do you guys throw themed birthday parties? I know I never had them as a kid, and I certainly don't remember going to any themed parties. We did do a construction themed party last year for my son, it was nice, because I didn't have to go out and buy specific commercialized stuff. We bought yellow and orange streamers and plates, and put up construction cones everywhere. Our cake was homemade and I put on it little construction trucks pushing "dirt" (the dirt was smashed up Oreo cookies!). Anyway, my son had a blast, but I'm wondering if the adults appreciated the "theme" aspect more than my son!
