"Cool Parent" Viral Advertising Videos Flood the Internet

Evenflo uses potty mouth to sell its latest car seat. The company is going minivan with its new Savvy Parent viral video that was made in a similar vein to Toyota's much talked about swagger wagon campaign. While the car manufacturer used humor and cool factor to rebrand a family vehicle, Evenflo tackles swearing to direct attention to the Momentum 65 convertible seat. The clip includes mentions of a five-point safety harness coupled with f-bombs. And, it seems the way to a parent's purchasing power is through his or her Facebook page. Videos are often shared and spread rapidly on social networking sites. As a parent, do you buy into this type of advertising strategy?

If your tot is older than a year, chances are he's tried to copy either your behavior or speech. Adorable at first, it can be a tad harrowing when it's a four letter word that slips from his mouth. In this clip, the lil man is apparently mimicking his father's phone conversations with the cable company.

Disney's Website Takes the Cheese

Just when you thought YouTube was the end all and be all. Ever since Disney re-vamped its website, the site has been getting 25 million unique users a month, 100 million videos shown a week and 1 billion pages served every thirty days. Just in case you're not a computer geek, that's a LOT of traffic.
This year long makeover project, led by Bob Iger, includes five key principles: community, remixing content, user-generated content, online video, and story-driven experiences. Why so popular you ask? Ars technica explains that "the company has an enviable archive of characters and content to draw on, much of which is long tail material that is no longer viable at retail. The brand is trusted by parents and kids alike and is known for offering clean content that parents don't need to monitor." That calls for a - hey Mickey you're so fine you're so fine you blow my mind, hey Mickey!

Viacom Sues Google For One Billion Dollars

Media giant Viacom, the parent company of networks like MTV, Comedy Central and the Cartoon Network, put the smack down today suing Google and YouTube for “massive intentional copyright infringement.” Viacom has been fighting with YouTube for some time over clips of Viacom programs and shows that end up on the site, and is now asking for $1 billion in damages. As we all know, Google bought YouTube recently for 1.65 billion, so $1 billion isn't exactly chump change. Here's more:

Viacom accused the video-sharing Web site of “exploiting the devotion of fans to others’ creative work in order to enrich itself.” It added: “There is no question that YouTube and Google are continuing to take the fruit of our efforts without permission and destroying enormous value in the process.”

The lawsuit is the latest scuffle between YouTube and Viacom. Last month, Viacom demanded that YouTube remove more than 100,000 clips of its programming. YouTube complied, and in some cases posted a disclaimer that read: “removed at the request of Viacom International” where Viacom material once was.

Viacom said 160,000 clips of its programming have been available on YouTube and that they had been viewed more than 1.5 billion times. Somewhere, Austin Powers is getting really excited about the return of the "1 billion dollars."
