A 23-month-old doesn't come to mind when one conjures up the image of a pool shark, but it should. Keith O'Dell, 23 months old, keeps his eye on the eight ball and can't stand to scratch! The tot who is likely still in diapers spends two to three hours a day angling his stick around his mini felt table perfecting shots. His parents say they aren't pushing their son, but will allow him to continue as long as he's happy.

If you're having a lazy day, don't rely on the boob tube to entertain your tots. Instead turn to an energy exhausting activity to calm hyper kids. The other day, my lil darlings danced their hearts out for an hour during an impromptu game of freeze dance. At five and two, they haven't perfected the freezing part, but were more than thrilled to attempt to stand still when the music stopped. When we pumped up the jams, they got inventive creating their own signature moves.

Vans are my son's shoe of choice - he slides them on and is on his way. But, the stylish slip-ons popular with aspiring wee skaters aren't appropriate for certain occasions. For fancy affairs, I invested in a pair of shiny black Kenneth Cole lace-ups, but because weddings, holidays and funerals are so few and far between, he outgrows them quickly.

Then I came across a more casual shoe that is restaurant and playground friendly - Merrells. The classic mocs with rubber soles provide great traction for my tot who's always ready to party. The suede and leather uppers complement most casual outfits and the price tag ($25 - $30) won't break the bank as his feet continue to grow.

Reasons Two Isn't Terrible

Two years ago today, I gave birth to my son. While he's definitely given me a run for my money, I am thrilled for this milestone for many reasons and don't believe for a second that the twos are terrible.

We bid his crib goodbye and he's settled in his big boy bed.
When he wakes up in the morning, he plays with his toys and lets us rest a bit longer.
He's a mover and a shaker so we don't need the stroller as much and my arms get a rest.
He never tires of talking about bugs, big jets, choo choo trains, rockets, airplanes and motorcycles.
When he laughs his entire body shakes.
He dances even when music isn't playing.
He is a lil fireball of energy propelling me day in and day out.
He's generous with his kisses.
He says, "I love you mama!" at least once a day.

Stride Rite Steps Up With Shoes That Fit Lots of Feet

With 85 years of experience under their belt, Stride Rite is putting its knowledge to the test with a new store concept featuring areas for first time walkers and kids that have been on their feet for quite a while.

Collections by Stride Rite, which made its debut in New York City last week, is more of a high-end shopping experience than your typical trip to a children's shoe store. Featuring a 3D Fit machine that uses six cameras to capture the full shape and measurements of a child's foot, fun seats and modern merchandise displays, the store is innovative. The company plans to open at least two more of these new stores this year, but future locations have not been determined.

At the grand opening, the company announced its new branding of shoes designed for its youngest customers. Rather offering "stages" of shoes, Stride Rite has begun categorizing the footwear as Prewalkers and Walkers.

The new "natural motion system" shoes will continue to feature the company's signature flexible leather uppers and rubber traction soles to ensure that babies' feet are protected inside and out. And, for the first time the company will be introducing several Eco-friendly shoes. The soles of these shoes are made of 30 percent recycled rubber, the leather features water-based ink designs and the stitching is completely natural. The Eco shoes hit stores in October.

Shopping for little girls is the most fun task in the world. The hard part comes when I want the items for myself, too. While I'm not into dressing like my tot, I'd be hard pressed not to buy this outfit for myself if it came in my size.
