When my son's doctor told me to transition him from a sippy cup to a straw version, I knew my one-year-old was on the right path. Over the past month, my tot had taken a liking to drinking water out of a real cup with a straw. But that's only convenient when we're at home or in a restaurant. As a second child, my lil one is constantly on the go and we needed a cup that was easily transported. I reached out to a number of companies and put seven brands to the test. Check out the results!

When my son's pediatrician reminded me to get him started on a sippy cup, I found myself running to the store in search of the perfect first cup. Walking down the weaning aisle, I was overwhelmed by the sheer number of drinking vessels on the market. I quickly grabbed the now-BPA-free version of the same cup my older son had used, washed and sterilized it, and gave my lil tyke the go-ahead. It hit the floor in the blink of an eye. After a week of him simply chewing on the nozzle, I went back and gathered up a few different brands to see which he would like. After a month, we have some clear favorites. Gear Review: Intak BPA Free Water Bottle

While I'm a fan of reusable bottles made by Sigg, Klean Kanteen, and Nalgene, they all requite two hands to open them, which can be annoying at times. If you can relate, then check out the Intak BPA Free Hydration Bottle with Meter ($11) made by Thermos.

Unlike other water bottles, this one has a pop top. You just lower the metal ring to unlock it, and press the gray triangular button. The clear top pops off but remains attached since it's on a hinge. You can't loosen it - yay! It reveals a small opening that makes it easy to sip out of without pouring water all over your face. Once the top is locked, it's leak proof. I love the slender body that's easy to grip, and it holds 24 ounces of water. There's even a little rotating meter so you can monitor how much water you've had. One of the best features is that the black top unscrews so it's easy to clean the inside of the bottle. Thermoses are a perfect way to carry around lunchtime tea or morning coffee, but usually they're not the most attractive. This thermos I came across, however, has a pretty floral pattern hand-painted onto it, plus it's only $14! Having this pretty little container might actually tempt me to give up my morning Starbucks run and bring my coffee to work with me instead. It would look nice sitting on my desk, as an accessory as I am making my way to work and would make a great little gift too!

Yum Market Finds: Cool Contraptions

Man there are some crazy cool contraptions out there in this world! And I don't mean just gadgets and gizmos that geeksugar would be interested in. I'm talking about little devices that are perfect for the ultimate hostess. For example, take a look at this cupcake travel protector. Isn't it the worst when you spend a whole bunch of time decorating cupcakes only to have the frosting smeared when you pack them up? Now we can avoid that problem with this amazing little safety box that eruntale discovered!

Two more useful apparatus, so

I thought I was the hostess with the mostess by having a bottle opener on my key chain until I realized that this credit card bottle opener is ten times cooler! Sleek and chic, it can fit into my Dior wallet and I can pull it out whenever a bottle opener is needed. Thanks for finding this handy little card Atkoester!

Gear Review: Mizuno Breath Thermo Tights and Crew Top

San Francisco may not have arctic weather, but running in the Winter still calls for a few layers, or at least gear strategically designed to keep frosty temps at bay. Enter the newest offering from running company Mizuno: its Breath Thermo line of zip-up jackets, tops, and tights designed with snowy weather in mind.

Thin and lightweight, both the Mizuno Breath Thermo Layered Running Tights ($75) and the Mizuno Breath Thermo Running Crew ($60) have a secret - they're made of material that both absorbs sweat and converts it to warmth using the company's Breath Thermo technology, so you stay dry and warm at the same time.

Once the evening temps hit the 50s, I took these out for a spin. I loved the tights the instant I pulled them on; they felt cozy and soft without feeling constricting, and they have well-thought-out details, like zippered calves for easy on, easy off, a small back zippered pocket for cash and ID, and an inside pocket for a key. Also, the strategic stitching and seam design give the tights a flattering fit as well - an important aspect to consider when you're running around town in leggings!

InCase Thermo Snap Case Is Like a Modern Day Mood Ring

Let's face it - if you weren't into mood rings when you were younger, then you probably didn't like fun stuff. But the secret of the mood ring (spoiler alert) is in your body's temperature. Picking up where the mood ring craze left off is the InCase Thermo Snap Case ($35) that changes from dark to light, depending on the temperature. A long phone call or a handprint will make a lasting impression as the case slowly returns to room temp, but considering how much I'm on my phone, I'm looking forward to lots of color-changing opportunities.

I kinda wish the color change was more dramatic (throw some purple, green, and blue in there!), but hey - maybe version 2.0 will more closely resemble the mood rings of my past.
