We've already shown you how to jazz up your classic t-shirt and jeans look, and now we're moving on to another major style conundrum: how do you spruce up a cardigan? There are actually lots of ways, from replacing the original buttons with pretty vintage ones, layering it over a printed button-up blouse, or just rolling up the sleeves - but the quickest, most stylish way to add intrigue to your everyday sweater ensemble is simply to belt it.

Start with a pair of pants - preferably of the bright, cropped variety - and a pretty top. Since you're cinching everything in at the waist, it doesn't matter how loose or fitted the top is. Then, throw on your cardigan. A neutral shade looks best (that way you can play around with your belt options).
Put on your belt, paying close attention to location. This look works best when you belt at your natural waist; it creates a sexy, feminine silhouette, and looks especially lovely when your cardigan is open.

From the moment we laid eyes on the purple geometric-designed carpet-cum-catwalk, we knew Miuccia Prada would imbue the Fall 2012 collection with her signature brand of retro quirk and clean lines. Indeed, it was a flurry of bright clashing prints (of all shapes and sizes), bejeweled wares, and ombre dip-dyed hair. The mosaic-like psychedelic prints came a dime a dozen, in bold burnt oranges, purples, and mustard yellows, and were transferred onto crisp suits, long coats (some even with coattails), button-downs, and dresses. When we weren't hypnotized by the plethora of colorful hexagonal patterns, we paid close attention to the intricate detailing given to each look. Long, luxe black coats were adorned with opulent jewel embellishments both on the collar and down the front lapel; similarly, the hems of cropped tailored pants received the same bedazzled treatment. As for the accessories? Models donned sky-high Mary Janes, complete with red rubber soles, carried slick tote bags that reminded us of old-school doctor bags, and wore futuristic aviator-meets-retro round sunglasses. Simply put, Miuccia's Fall lineup was a vibrant play on prints, sparkle, and tailored proportions.

Trends: Bejeweled hemlines and collars, dresses-over-pants, belted outerwear, and bold clashing prints.
Colors: Purple, blue, burnt orange, mustard yellow, and black.
Key Piece: The long, luxe, belted black coats, with rich embellishing both on the collar and down the front.

Yigal Azrouël designed his Fall '12 collection for a woman who is "fearless in her outlook and quiet in her confidence." Drawing from the spirit of Françoise Hardy, Yigal sent sophisticated, ladylike looks with an exotic twist down the runway. To put it simply, it was a luxurious mélange of plush raccoon-fur cossacks, long cashmere coats with leather-trimmed pockets, pebble-printed silk jumpsuits, snakeskin gloves, and one jaw-dropping laser-cut crepe leather gown. Add to the mix lambskin pants and structured leather jackets in a covetable palette of autumnal henna, bordeaux, and evergreen hues, and you've got a cold-weather wardrobe worth lusting after. As Yigal put it, this collection is all about "the unintentional beauty in mystery."
