Multiples Baby Shower: Games!

For lilsugar's last week of extensive baby shower coverage, we're celebrating the birth of multiples! While twosomes seem to be more normal these days, celebrating their arrival should be anything but common.

The invited guests are happily fed and enjoying the lovely décor while sipping away on their iced teas. Gather the crew into the main room to play a round of games before opening the gifts for the mama-to-be. Download our multiple mania game that will have guests guessing at birth stats, names and other fun baby details. Though nobody will be announced a winner on the spot, everyone will have a laugh during the activity.

Bedrest Bash: Games

While you're lounging in your pjs and snacking on pizza, prolong the girl time by playing some fun (not corny) baby games. Make it worth the ladies' while actually presenting the winner with a bottle of champagne or gift certificate for a mani/pedi.

Guess the Belly Size: Bring a spool of yarn or twine and a pair of scissors. Everyone takes a shot at guessing how big the mama–to–be's belly is and cuts their piece. When all the guests have snipped their string, you measure the expectant belly and compare the strings. Whoever guesses closest to the real measurement wins.
Blushing Baby Moments: Pass out a piece of paper and pen to each guest. Everyone must write their most embarrassing childhood moment down on the slip and fold it in half. Once all are complete, collect them in a basket. The mama of honor must read them aloud and then try to guess which story belongs to whom.
Betting Time: Not so much a game, ask guests to guess the sex, weight, date and length of the baby on one piece of paper. The grid is a fun keepsake for baby's book.

Sibling Shower: Games and Activities

Once you've gathered a few lil ones to celebrate the soon-to-be big sis or brother's sibling shower, let the games begin! To hold tots' attention, keep the activities short and engaging. Start with a round of baby bingo to familiarize the future sibling with items that the family's newest addition will need.

You can download this very design for your party here! All you have to do is click on the links below to download the PDFs and print from your computer. You will need:

Bingo card set one and set two to pass out to guests (each print out has a card for two players). Youngsters can cover the items called with M&M's.
Bingo icons, which you will print and cut with scissors.

Next, play a "guess the number of gummi bears in a bottle" game. Fill a glass bottle with gummi bears, which you have counted, then pass it around and have guests write down their guess of how many yummy gummis you've crammed into the space. Use this customized Gummi Bear Bottle Game sheet to record the guesstimates. And, award prizes to the winners.

Good Things Come in Small Packages: Games

Every party needs a lil icebreaker. So the clothespin game is a simple way to encourage mingling at a baby shower.

Hand one small pin out to each of your guests and ask them to secure it to a visible place like their shirt or jacket label. To see how to play, read more.

Once everyone has placed their pins, choose a word like "baby," "boy," "girl" or one more specific to the mama-to-be's pregnancy and announce it.

If anyone hears someone say the forbidden word, they can take their pin. The person with the most pins at the end of the shower wins.

Kiddie Soiree: Baby Shower Gift Opening Tip

Unlike some kiddie birthday parties, it's completely kosher to open the gifts at a baby shower.

But, some full bellied women shun the spotlight when it comes to fawning over bottles and diaper bins. So take some of the heat off the mama–to–be and engage the guests with a present opening game that livens things up. To learn about the time saver, read more.

When it's time to open the gifts, ask everyone to sit in a circle and have the hostesses pass each one a present. Each person opens the gift she is holding at the same time. Then the expectant mom goes from person to person, holds up the gift and announces who it's from.

While this speeds up the present process, nothing is lost since everyone sees the adorable onesies, bunny chair and silver spoons. It just allows for a quick return to the sparkling cider and mimosa bar!

Sip and See Baby Shower: Games and Activities

We’re continuing to celebrate mamas-to-be this month with our extensive baby shower planning guides. This week, we fete the mama and newborn who were not ready to be the centers of attention before the birth with a co-ed sip and see shower.

With an open house setting for our shower, we bypass traditional shower games in favor of one that will interest both the guys and girls in attendance, and be played throughout the day. When guests enter the home, ask them to fill out our fill-in-the blank "How Well Do You Know Baby" card (you can download it for free) and place it on a tray or in a basket. Assign one person to go through the cards every hour to declare a winner. Be sure to have some fun, gender-neutral prizes available for the lucky attendees who know all the gritty details about the guests of honor. Depending on the crowd, you can also turn the game into a battle of the sexes.

Operation Top Knot: Cheers to Military Mamas

Every mother needs a helping hand every now and then. As a woman with two healthy children, a doting husband, a nanny and a gaggle of girlfriends to support me, it's tough to complain about the overwhelming demands of motherhood, but still, I do. Try being an expectant military wife whose husband is deployed. While some ladies sit at home fretting about the nursery decor, she sits up at night praying for his safe return. For many, the dilemma of the day is, "Which stroller should I buy?" Somewhere on a military base, the soldier's wife debates on who will help her through labor as her beloved flies a fighter jet continents away.

Thankfully, there are groups of generous people who take the time to honor the wives of soldiers (or the enlisted ladies themselves) and their impending arrival into motherhood. A project of nonprofit Soldiers' Angels, Operation Top Knot threw a baby shower for 32 pregnant military ladies in Las Vegas. They received handmade baby gifts of blankets, hats, and booties and celebrated the special occasion with cake, chocolate, games and of course, each other. Heirloom Baby Shower: Games and Activities

lilsugar is celebrating mamas-to-be all month with extensive baby shower coverage that will help you put on awww-inducing, unique, socially relevant, and hip fetes. This week, we are planning an heirloom-themed party that asks guests to pass on stories, advice and heirloom goods instead of filling a nursery with new goodies.

When we planned the party's decor, I suggested you ask guests to bring photos of their loved ones and children to hang on a clothespin banner at the party. If they do, one of the day's activities should be a half hour dedicated to story telling and sharing advice for the new mommy. Once that is over, have each guest fill out our fill-in-the-blank Wishes for Baby card (you can download it in blue and pink or brown and orange for free), collect the cards, and have the mother-to-be or grandmother-to-be read the wishes out loud to the whole group. There won't be a dry eye in the house.

Sip-and-See Baby Shower: Theme, Guest List, and Invitations

We’re continuing to celebrate mamas-to-be this month with our extensive baby shower planning guides. We’ve seen showers in celebration of older siblings, as well as one that brought some nostalgia to the table. This week, we fete the mama and newborn who were not ready to be the centers of attention before the birth with a sip-and-see shower.

Whether it is cultural superstition or a woman who has faced miscarriage or troubled pregnancies in the past, the sip-and-see shower celebrates the new family by welcoming relatives and friends with an opportunity to meet the newborn for the first time. Typically held a month or two after the baby is born, we’re structuring this party as an open house to celebrate the entire new family – mother, father, and baby – because at this point, dad is likely changing his share of diapers and helping with feedings and the like. While some guests may bring a present, many will have already sent one upon the lil one’s arrival.

The shower should be held at a friend or family member’s home in order to keep germs and mess out of the baby’s house. Because this is an open house, the guest list does not need to be quite as limited as it would be for a sit-down meal, but it is wise to make it adult only.
