Did a Child Put the Fear of God in You?

While I wasn't the daughter of a preacher man, my parents did make us go to church on Sundays. Like many kids, I dreaded it but started to appreciate the ritual and my Sunday school friends as I aged. Once in college, my trips to chapel became few and far between.

Perhaps it was being in awe of my newborn that had me praising and thanking God on an hourly basis. Or the need to explain Christmas on a noncommercial level to my 2-year-old that had me breathing air back into my old biblical ways. Regardless of which God people worship, I have found a similar trend amongst many of my parent friends. Has religion played a larger role in your life since having children?

Mom Tried to Have "Rudolph" Banned From School Performance

The kindergartens of North Carolina's Murrayville Elementary practiced a rendition of "Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer" in music class to prep for a PTA holiday performance until one mother objected to what she thought were religious overtones in it. The woman felt the words "Santa" and "Christmas" in the lyrics should not be taught in public school and petitioned that the song be removed from the program. The school board ruled that it was an appropriate tune and allowed the children to perform it. What's your opinion?

It is natural for a parent to want the best for their child. For Nepali father Pratap Man Shakya, that means sending his 3-year-old daughter away to the country's capital of Katmandu to be worshiped as the Hindu goddess Taleju. There she will be worshiped until she reaches puberty, at which point she will return to her normal life back home.

After performing various ancient ceremonies and testing the physical traits of numerous girls, a panel of judges chose Matani Shakya to be the next kumari, or living goddess. Picked for her perfect teeth, eyes, hair, and flawless skin, the youngster must also not be afraid of the dark. Once she met that criteria, she had to fearlessly spend one solo ritualistic night in a room full of slaughtered goats and buffalo heads. A pretty astonishing feat for such a tiny tot.

Would you be willing to give your child up for such a cause if it required her spending the remainder of her childhood away from you?

According to E! News Baby Bratman, son of songstress Christina Aguilera and her hubbie, Jordan Bratman had his bris, at their Beverly Hills home yesterday.

The celeb parents kept in tune with typical Jewish tradition, as Max Liron was eight days old during the ceremony. Since Christina is said to be Roman Catholic and Jordan is Jewish, we wonder if the couple will raise their son in one religion or both.

Many parents are faced with a religious decision once they welcome a lil one into the world. What did you do?

Did Nicole Name Her Daughter to Spite Scientology?

I'm not buddies with Nicole Kidman or Matthew McConaughey, but I'll admit it's kind of fun learning what they named their children. While Levi was greeted with cheers, Sunday Rose Kidman Urban's moniker was received with mixed emotion. After much curiosity, elated grandfather Antony revealed the meaning behind the babe's name. He told Sydney's Daily Telegraph:

I have read a bit about Sunday Reed and her husband John – she was a key mover and shaker in the arts around the beginning of the century. . . The name Sunday struck me as being a nice name for a woman, so my wife and I mentioned it.

The Huffington Post wonders if the statuesque beauty didn't pick the name Sunday as an insult to her ex–husband Tom Cruise's religion Scientology. The site quotes a source from MSNBC:

Nicole is a Catholic, and Sunday was an important religious day for her until she was involved in Scientology. She's still bitter about her experience with Scientology and the fact her baby's name could be perceived as one last jab doesn't exactly upset her.

I have a hard time believing the blissful couple would be revengeful when naming their newborn baby. What do you think of the name–jabbing theory?

Do Violet and Maddox set the bar for your wee one's wardrobe? If you see Shiloh sporting her sassy Sweet Shoes or one of the Mahoney twins dressed up in their True Religion dungarees, does it make you want to go out and buy them for your tot?

The Wall Street Journal noticed that mamas are modeling their babes after celebabies the world over. A recent WSJ article dished on one mom concerned with keeping up with the Rossdales. It said:

She bought a $25 pack of camouflage-print socks after seeing rocker couple Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale's 2-year-old son, Kingston Rossdale, knocking around London in his socks. Now, Ms. Collins's son, Jase, who is five months old, 'can be just as hot as any celebrity baby,' his mother says.

I delight in watching Tinseltown's tots grow up, but I don't give much thought to what they wear as I don't have the means to pay for outrageous lil outfits like those Suri sports.
