Lil Find: Pregnant Paper Dolls

At some point during your pregnancy, you have to take a step back and laugh at the whole situation. Your ankles are swollen and you're wearing clothes you said you would never put on your body. You can't remember the last time you saw your toes - where is the 40 week glow?

Remember your sense of pre-pregnancy humor with Pregnant Paper Dolls ($12), a set of cut-out paper dolls and maternity wear for each trimester. The set includes clothing and accessories for four paper dolls with varying belly sizes to represent different stages of fetal development, as well as the postpartum period. And for the mamas-to-be who want marriage before carriage, a pregnant wedding gown is included.

Girls Are Never Too Old For Fancy Pants!

I see London, I see France...Summer skirts and gymnastic-loving lil girls have been taunted about their undergarments throughout history. If only the beautiful bloomers and fun diaper covers that looked so cute on their tushes as tots worked for older kids too.

Mamas looking for a way to avoid the unnecessary schoolyard antics will consider some of the short-like underwear covers available. Like Monkey Bar Buddies, the fun and fanciful designs of Francie Pants might encourage your adventure-seeker to hang onto the jungle gym for a few more minutes. Each box comes with a little paper doll sporting the covers and encouraging girls to dress them in whatever.

The Gifted Child: 4-Year-Olds

Preschoolers are quite an ambitious group. They spend their days at school being the line leader or napkin passer, and then come home to demonstrate their ability to complete tasks with less oversight. At this age, they are often rewarded in knowing that they finished a project on their own, rather than with applause or treats. Encourage this independence with gifts that allow them to work by themselves with minimal parental involvement.

Among our choice gifts for preschoolers are:

Big Wheels were big when I was this age and they are back! Kids spent most afternoons tearing through the neighborhood on their sets of Big Wheels, and I can't wait for my children to do so, too.

Designed for children ages 4 to 8, the LeapFrog TAG Reading System features a stylus with a camera in its tip that “reads” the letter, words, and symbols on the pages of the 16 books in its library, including favorites like Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, The Little Engine that Could, and Olivia.

If your lil one insists on dressing herself, she will love the eeBoo Paper Dolls. Each set comes with two multicultural dolls, background scenes, and magnetic clothing that can be mixed and matched to ensure that the doll is properly dressed for each occasion.

Help your budding A-Rod perfect his swing with the Fisher Price ESPN Better Batter Baseball. The t-ball-like toy plays ESPN music each time a ball is loaded into it.

Another childhood classic that has been updated for today's preschooler, Lite Brite allows kids to experiment with color and light to create masterpieces on four sides at one time.

A fun and fast-paced take on Bingo, Zingo will have your tot begging for family game night to begin.

Source

Ecoween: Turning Paper Back to Timber

One of the oldest green terms of endearment is "tree hugger." Out here in the Bay Area, we have our fair share of them and they love their trees so much that they're willing to live in them for months in an effort to save the natural wonders.

Use some gifts from Mother Nature along with some recyclable items to craft a costume that pays homage to trees. It's the least we can do to pay them back for all of the beauty they provide.

To see how to create the tree, read more.
List of things you need:

Cardboard box(es)

String or yarn

Hot glue gun

Green and brown paints

Used green bags that grocers carry for herbs

Green or brown paper (White will work as shown above but green would be much better)

Leaves

Brown or green pants

A small doll (not shown above)

Steps to make the tree:

Cut out two pieces of cardboard the size shoulder to knee length.

Paint one side of each piece brown or copper color and allow it to dry.

Hot glue the leaves onto the brown painted cardboard to create a bark effect.

Punch or cut two holes at each shoulder of each cardboard piece.

Fill the herb bags with green construction paper and tie them off to make balloon type bag.

Hot glue the green filled herb bags to the shoulder areas of each board.

Tie strings to one of the boards. Then attach them to the other side so the two boards hang evenly over your tot's shoulders.

For extra effect, you can dress your lil one up in brown pants and a green top.

My model wouldn't allow me to put the finishing touch on without screaming bloody murder, but if you really want to make a statement with the costume, add a doll to your child's shoulder so it looks like you have a tree sitter demonstrating on the tree's behalf.

To read all of our ECOWEEN coverage, click here.
