Mommy Dearest,

I am due in a few months and have started thinking about what to take with me to the hospital. I have found lots of options when it comes to PJs and nightgowns and would love to hear your opinion of whether or not it is a good idea to buy some. If so, what type of garment (nightgown, tops and pants, nursing, button down, etc.) should I purchase?

The button-up nightgown and uber soft socks I wore when my daughter was born, ended up stained and in the trash. So I stuck to the hospital issued gown when I had my son and brought a robe to wrap up in when visitors came. I think your best bet is an inexpensive robe or nursing gown that allows your baby easy access and you mobility when the nurses come in to swap out pads and ice. Just as soon as my hospital bags were packed, I found myself a cozy pair of pajama bottoms that happen to be quite easy on the eyes, too. Instead of scurrying down the hospital corridors in beat up flannel pants with balled up fuzz dangling on them, I'll be sashaying with my new bebé in festive cotton pantaloons by Lilka ($48).

Junior Jetset: Lil Tip For Early Travel

Every time our family has an early flight, we cut it close. The shuttle or taxi usually arrives just as I'm about to lose my mind. Then we head to the airport and have to kill time with irritated kids. Getting two tired tots up, bathed, and dressed can cause parents quite a bit of stress. I've noticed things run much smoother when I treat my tots to a bubble bath the night before and let them dress for the next day before hopping in bed.

They think it's wild to wear clothes as pajamas and my husband and I don't have to worry about the extra time it takes to get them ready. Since we can carry them straight from their beds to our transportation, they are also likely to sleep all the way to the airport. This tip also works for wee-hour-of-the-morning road trips.

Wee Are the World: Where to Donate Your Kiddos' Used Goods

My kids are growing like weeds, so I've been going through their closets and deciding what to toss and what to donate. The seasonal ritual also tends to turn up clothing items that still have tags on them, duplicate books, and toys that have never been touched. While some of the things are passed to friends, I am always looking for new places to donate the goods.

Baby Buggy collects and distributes gently used baby clothing and equipment throughout New York City and donates it to domestic violence and homeless shelters as well as court child centers. Started by baby puree guru Jessica Seinfeld, the charity has distributed more than two million items over the last eight years.
Pajama Program provides new pajamas and books to children in need, particularly those awaiting adoption. The nonprofit encourages individuals to hold pajama drives to help collect them for distribution.
Project Night Night provides homeless shelters with individual tote bags filled with a security blanket, an age-appropriate book, and a stuffed animal. The organization accepts new blankets, like-new books, and stuffed animals to be placed in their care packages.

Most donated items need to be in like-new condition.

Clothing free of stains, tears, or personalization.
Baby gear that is in excellent working condition, was purchased in the last three years, and has not been recalled.
Car seats that have not been in accidents.
Unopened diapers, water diapers, and pullups.
Never donate used feeding supplies (bottles, forks, etc.) or unsanitary breastfeeding supplies.
