The pope doesn't like my name; should my parents have cared? In second grade, I was pulled out of (but later allowed back in) the First Communion practice line when the teachers realized that I wasn't named after a saint. I had to laugh when I saw my moniker in the list of those to avoid in a recent Reuters report.

It seems that the pope upset some Italian parents and fed the press when he said that every Catholic child should be given a Christian name after a baptism ceremony at the Vatican this past weekend. He said it is "an unequivocal sign that the Holy Spirit gives a rebirth to people in the womb of the Church." Modern parents have gotten quite creative in naming their children; how important do you think it is to adhere to religious rules?

There were so many Michaels and Daniels in school when I was growing up that most of those boys were also known by the first letter of their last name. When there were duplicates, the children went by their full names. That, or they decided on a nickname - Mike, Mikey, Dan, Danny, initials, etc. If someone called out one of the common monikers, several kiddos turned around. Some people find comfort in everyone knowing their name. Others prefer a unique label. What's your opinion?

Well, Veterinary Pet Insurance (the country's largest and oldest provider), recently took tally of their 477,000 registered pets to see how many shared surnames with US presidents. After taking out ones that could double as fairly traditional human names – like Madison and Jackson – they counted up the number of dogs, cats, birds, and other exotic pets that had names in common with presidents. Easy A: The French Women Who Have the Most Sex

A survey from the European dating site Smartdate found that a Laura, Cassandra, or Julia in France has a far more active sex life than an Anaïs, Colette, or Nicole.

While the average French woman reports 4.4 sex partners, women whose names end in "A" were more likely to have around nine. A big difference for one letter.

It all sounds trivial until you look at why. Traditional French names rarely end in "A," so those that do are usually from another language or culture, giving them an exotic allure. I still don't believe a name could make a nearly five sex-partner difference, though.

Smartdate concedes that female names ending in "A" are overrepresented on its site, which is odd for a country that underrepresents them. Maybe it should look at how many nonnatives (could be a more promiscuous population?) use Smartdate. Surely, they're more likely to turn to the Internet to meet people than those born and raised there, especially in a country so notoriously introverted.
