Shake, Shake, Shake Those Stunning Tambourines!

Children just looove making noise, don't they? They will absolutely love shaking these tambourines! Lots of fun for mum and dad, too. Just put on some groovy music and start banging those tambourines to the beat of the music.

Their sturdy products are made from rubber wood, non-formaldehyde glue and water-based dyes and inks. Mamma Mia! Invites Families to Sing it!

A friend of mine got us two CDs from Babytrax for my daughter's first birthday. She loves music and is full of energy, but when it's time to wind down we pop in the Babytrax CDs. We use it most when she's at her peak fussiness during car rides, and the music has an amazing calming effect. The pieces are so soothing, especially for baby, but also for mom and dad! I think what we liked most was that the music is "real". No tinker toys, sound effects, or anything else like that. The piano pieces are absolutely beautiful and our daughter actually responds to the music. We've gone back to the site and bought more. They have seven albums available on their site. If you're a music lover like my husband and I are, or want to introduce your little one to music, I highly recommend giving Babytrax a listen.

How Often Does Your Family Dance?

Just dance! If you want your child to be engaged play some funky music. A new study to be published in the next issue of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences shows that babies respond to both the rhythm and tempo of music more so than speech.

Through their evaluation of 120 tots between the ages of five months and two years, researchers found that wee ones have a natural relationship with music – moving their arms, heads, legs, and feet to the beat, rather than the melody. The findings also concluded that when tykes could move their body in concert with the music's beat, they were more likely to smile. Scientists are still unsure of the reasoning behind the human connection to music, but we're wondering how often your family hits the dance floor?

Toy Box: Mozart Music Cube

It always seems that kids are enamored with boisterous toys that talk, sing, dance and espouse animal noises. Unfortunately, those are usually the ones that parents dislike the most.

My aunt gave my babe a Mozart Music Cube ($22) for Christmas and it has been a surprisingly delightful, be it noisy, addition to my tot's toy box.

Unlike her Dora push bus or Baby Jamz chair, this cubical instrument plays Mozart on various instruments – piano, violin, harp and flute. The instrumental box can teach your child about colors and sounds while fine tuning their classical music palette and listening abilities.

T Is For Titillating Tunes

Don't bother knockin' if the nursery's a rockin'. Bronx Wentz and Zuma Rossdale may have music running through their veins, but any tot can have tune inspired lairs. Rock stars are known for wearing black so mamas can stick with an ebony and ivory themed room using a contrasting Moses basket and a zebra striped rug. Highlight the digs with a vibrant locker inspired lime green dresser. Baby can walk into a melodious wonderland with musically embroidered beanbags, guitar decals, and turntable pillows. Moms can add a personal touch by framing old sheet music or shadowboxing saved concert tickets. And if the parents are hoping for a mini musician, they better provide the tot the tools to get a head start on tickling those ivories.
