Why Didn't Anybody Tell Me: Restless Leg Syndrome

I used to think those commercials of people twitching about in bed were a crock until I had dinner with my mommy gal pals the other night. Two of them have been suffering terribly from restless leg syndrome (RLS) during their pregnancies. I know sometimes mothers-to-be have fretful sleeping patterns as their bellies start to pop and cause positioning discomfort, but constant movement of the legs was news to me.

RLS can be a product of stress, iron deficiency, and pregnancy just to name a few. Unfortunately, no cure is available to better the situation but there are things a mother in waiting, or anyone for that matter, can do to better her snoozing situation. To see what they are, read more.

Warm baths
Gentle stretching exercises
Massage
Low doses of pramipexole or ropinirole (Requip) have been found to be very effective in controlling symptoms in some people.
If sleep is severely disrupted, medications such as Sinemet (an anti-Parkinson's medication) or tranquilizers such as clonazepam may be prescribed, but they may cause daytime sleepiness.
Patients with iron deficiency will receive iron supplements.
Low doses of narcotics may sometimes relieve symptoms of restless leg syndrome.

Celebaby Style: Suri Cruise Steps Out in Silver and Suede

Suri Cruise is one hot tot that sets the bar when it comes to celebaby style. Her high heel wearing ways have made her the hot topic in many mommy groups of late but it was this outfit that caught my attention. A sign of a true fashionista, Suri's ensemble looks perfectly effortless. Methinks "Stylist" might make it onto the lil sass's resume faster than any other profession.

All bundled up and protected from the NYC weather, the lil lady wore silver liquid leggings and a posh set of kid-friendly Petite Maloles "Celia" purple suede flats before stepping out in the rain. While the $160 shoes may be a bit steep for most moms who know they will end up in a sandpit, they are less apt to cause a twisted ankle than a pair of pumps. Keeping the flash below, she tops it off with a simple hot pink dress and a conservative Juicy Couture sweater that screams sweet girl. Sadly teenage pregnancies have become all too common, even trendy in some spots. While movies like Juno make it seem like an American phenomenon, other parts of the world have seen babies having babies for ages. In many countries, the age of consent is as low as 13 or 14. Though it varies by state in America, the average age of consent is 16. So when we hear about an 11-year-old having a daughter, it still shocks the system. When I think of 11-year-olds, I imagine budding girls starting middle school and having their first crush. I think training bras and scrawny legs, not breastfeeding an infant. But that's exactly where one young lady finds herself.

An 11-year-old Bulgarian girl had a daughter in the middle of her wedding festivities. Yes, wedding festivities. The two wanted to tie the knot before the baby's arrival. Apparently it was love at first sight when her 19-year-old fiancé rescued her from a bullying group of lads. The two consecrated their love for each other within a week and unknown to him, she lied about her age so not to scare him off. She immediately became pregnant with his child. Now the two teens are parents to Violeta. The new mommy said, ""I'm not going to play with toys anymore - I have a new toy now."

He's on all fours and he's on the loose! Mama better be ready when her youngster finds his wheels and starts crawling all over the house. The lil squirrels can get into every nook and cranny, slamming doors, eating crumbs and picking up pennies nobody ever paid attention to... until now. But not every crawl is the same. While the hands and knees motion is the most commonly assumed position, some tots choose to scoot across the floor on their tiny bums while others do the one-legged crab walk. My lil guy seems ready for the military with his commando crawl as he utilizes his elbows and drags his muscled legs on the ground.

I've had a mom crush on Thandie Newton for some time but it has since evolved into a family crush. The British beauty's petite features were passed down to her two darling daughters who also have a spunky sense of style and sass. The adorable girls, Ripley, 9, and Nico, 5, have their mother's delicious complexion and her sculpted cheeks. On top of those lovely characteristics, they also have fab hair that distinguishes the pair and gives them each something to strut about.

Aside from their inherent good looks, the young ladies appear to have quite a fabulous wardrobe. Lil Nico worked the red carpet of the Fantastic Mr. Fox London premiere in her sparkly leggings, velvet blazer and old school kicks. Big sister Ripley rocked her Juicy leopard hooded jacket, fruity Nikes and equine necklace. There's no doubt that the mini mes know how to dress themselves up for a flashy affair.

What's Your Worst Mommy Travel Story?

Forget snakes. I'm scared of babies on a plane - especially my own! A year ago, I would have felt confident passing on travel tips for flying with infants as my daughter was a dream baby barely making a peep for 6-hour flights. But as we've all learned, just when you think you've got it down, the world turns upside down and mama's back to square one. I had the, ahem, pleasure of flying with my family for the weekend and experienced some of the most grueling hours of parenthood yet. My lil guy is a sweet laid back angel on land but without a crib or the room to move, he turns into a screeching wiggle worm who can't get comfortable and lets everyone around him know it. He didn't actually cry or have a complete meltdown but it was enough to make the eyes roll and comments fly.

In the end, it was the Bjorn and a trip to the bathroom that saved us from helter skelter. I strapped his chubby legs into the carrier and took him to the lavatory where I sang lullabies and caressed his brow. The trick was keeping the door shut without locking it. Locking it enables the bright fluorescent lights, which startled my already hyper child, but leaving the door unlocked allowed other passengers to believe the room was available. After 10 minutes of planting my foot at the door, swaying and soothing, he finally drifted off to dreamland. I made my way back to the seat and rested for an hour before he was startled all over again. Thankfully the end was near and we all made it to our destination alive and well, let's just say alive.
