Baby Mama Interview: Tina Fey and Amy Poehler

Baby Mama takes a comedic approach to fertility.

Tina Fey plays a successful businesswoman yearning to have a child. After learning she has a million in one chance of getting pregnant, she finds a surrogacy center and begins the process of finding a baby mama, played by Amy Poehler.

When asked about the research they conducted into birthing centers and natural birth methods, the actresses discussed the experts they had on set:

Tina Fey: We had some experts on set who were wonderful, like very earthy women who came up to me and were like (in a breathy voice), "Are you thinking about having another child now?" and I was like "No," and she was like "You should consider a water birth" and I’m like, "Didn’t you hear the part where I said no!"
Amy Poehler: The same woman was telling pregnant people in like their 9th month . . .
TF: Because a lot of the other women in the class were very, very pregnant . . .
AP: And she was explaining nice ways to make love and the women were like, "Uh, no."
TF: But by the end of it, I did want to have a water birth.
AP: You don't need to have a baby to have a water birth.

They were also asked about the stress that new parents face today and the differences that go into raising a city child:

TF: My daughter starts preschool next year so I just went through the process of taking her to her preschool interviews and you are just hoping "Please don’t poop yourself during that time."
AP: Did she wear a little power suit?
TF: Yeah, she had a little power suit!
AP: And did she have a teeny tiny brief case?
TF: She had little teeny tiny resumes.
AP: Made of candy!
TF: Yeah, she ate it. That you don’t find in the suburbs.
AP: Yeah I like that moment [in the film] where they say Wingspan and Banjo do you want to play with Groovy and Cheyenne?

Given Fey’s decision to give her daughter a traditional name Alice, we asked the women about Hollywood’s penchant for giving their children odd names:

TF: I like interesting names. My daughter’s middle name is sort of unusual, but they are all family names. I think that when you have a kid you have to try to think that when this child is an adult, how is this name going to suit the person. I like the name Apple.
AP: I’m just gonna name my kids numbers. New Dude, Little Dude, and eight George Foremans.

With Knocked Up and Juno having already covered pregnancy over the past year, the women were also asked why Hollywood is giving pregnancy so much attention:

TF: I think it is a universal experience and there may be a generation of comedy writers that are hitting that age where they all have kids and the guys would have written their dating fantasy comedies 15 years ago. People write what they know and it might be a generational thing.
AP: I think that Juno is very different from Knocked Up and our film is very different from that too. They’re all kind of different. Although they all tend to deal with a similar topic that’s really where it ends. But I think that our film is in the same way as Knocked Up it's just kind of straight up . . . with jokes.

Isla Fisher Doesn't Open Up Much About Motherhood

Isla Fisher's willing to confess things about her much anticipated movie, Confessions of a Shopaholic, which opened today, but she keeps mum about motherhood. At least when it comes to the press. At a recent junket for her latest release, when asked if she had read the book the movie was based on and how she balances the challenges of motherhood and career, the actress said:

Motherhood is my favorite topic in my personal life, but I don’t discuss it professionally just because I want my daughter to have privacy and a normal life. Yes, I was a huge fan of the books. I had read them all long before I heard about the project, and when I heard about the project and that Jerry Bruckheimer was producing it, obviously who I was a huge fan of, I didn’t think in my wildest dreams, that I would even get a meeting, let alone get the role. I literally still cannot believe I got the role. It’s very exciting for me.

Michelle Monaghan Is Having a Baby!

Michelle Monaghan had a glow about her during the press junkets for her latest film Made of Honor. But, the extra twinkle in her eye wasn't caused by her McDreamy co-star, Patrick Dempsey. The gorgeous brunette is expecting her first child with husband, Peter White. The wee one is reported to make its arrival in late fall.

Jack Black Welcomes Baby Number Two!

Word on the street is that Jack Black and wife Tanya Haden welcomed another boy into their family. According to People:

"I have a new one," Black, 38, told reporters Saturday at the junket for his animated movie, Kung Fu Panda, in Beverly Hills. "It's eating every three hours."

We'll keep you updated on any more details we learn about the bambino!

Update: ET reports that the new baby boy is taking after daddy - his name is also Jack.

Vietnam Ends American Adoption of Children

After being accused of having corrupt adoption practices, Vietnam is cutting their child bearing ties with America.

The report lists cases in which infants were sold or birth mothers were pressured to give up their babies. In some other cases it describes brokers going to villages in search for babies who could be possibly put up for adoption.

It also says some American adoption agencies have been paying orphanage directors for referrals, and some others have bribed orphanage officials by taking them on shopping sprees and junkets to the United States in return for a flow of babies.

The existing agreement expires in September so Vietnam will no longer accept applications from American couples as of July 1st. Adoptions already in progress will not be affected.

Countdown to Baby Mama!

Baby mama drama makes for great comedy.

As Buzz mentioned, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are co-starring in Baby Mama, a hysterical new movie about motherhood that opens Friday.

An updated, female version of the Odd Couple, the flick revolves around Fey's character - a 37-year-old organic food executive who yearns for a baby - and her unemployed, junk food-eating surrogate that Poehler portrays.

The movie makes the most of the mama-to-be moments from Lamaze classes to baby-proofing and test-driving top-of-the line strollers.

I attended the Baby Mama press junket where Fey, Poehler, Sigourney Weaver and writer and director, Michael McCullers dished about making the film. Wonder Woman: Kate Hudson

Growin' up with mother Goldie Hawn, you'd think Kate Hudson would be used to the celebaby environment. But, times have changed and the award-winning mom is very protective of her main man, Ryder Robinson.

The proud mom has had it with the child-clicking paparazzi. The distressed starlet told reporters:

It bothers me, it bothers my parents (Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell). Ryder doesn't know what that is. He's 4-years-old. It's aggressive, it's bizarre, and it makes him self-conscious. And kids should always be kids, they should never be self-conscious of what they're doing. That should be illegal.

Guilty as charged, we love to see Ryder and his cool fashion sense, which is no doubt a combination of his father's (Black Crowes lead man Chris Robinson) and mother's (bohemian-hippie mama Kate) two styles. In January's Vogue issue, the blue–eyed beauty and her mini–me wore checkers and stripes every which way with matching toppers. By the look of the photograph, we're not even sure Ryder liked Vogue's shutterfly.

While the prolific single mom has been busy with romances and press junkets, Ryder remains her priority. As many celebs go through nasty divorces and custody battles, Kate and her ex–hubby have maintained an abnormally kind and genuine friendship for the sake of their son.

And the giggly blond bombshell stays glamorous and stylish through it all as she walks red carpets, graces fashion magazine covers, and attends couture shows.

Much like her mama, Goldie's girl is nobody's fool.
