Mini Me: Harry Connick, Jr., Georgia and Sarah

Crooner Harry Connick, Jr. and his daughters, Georgia, 11 and Sarah, 10 caught some hoops over the weekend.

The trio attended the NBA All-Star Saturday Night at the New Orleans Arena. Dressed casually in denim, leggings and tees, the fresh faced brunette beauties look just as much like their handsome actor dad as they do their model mum, Jill Goodacre.

The music man and his wife also have a 5-year-old daughter, Charlotte. And, there certainly is no shortage of talent in this family's genes.

A new baby just turned one of Hollywood's lasting young couples into a family of three! Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr., who were married in 2002, welcomed a daughter on Saturday. The new mother also recently took her husband's last name. Congratulations to the Prinze clan!

Teaching children about historical figures can be stressful because it's important to provide them with plenty of back story and ample perspective, which is why I rely on books to help me educate my children about weighty subjects. I'm crystal clear on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s immeasurable legacy and effect on our country and culture, but when my children start asking questions I like to provide them with age appropriate story lines, anecdotes they can relate to and pretty pictures.

With Martin Luther King, Jr. Day coming up now is the opportune time to share Dr. King's dream with your lil one's inquisitive mind. Crooner Harry Connick Jr. epitomized a proud papa yesterday on The Today Show when his daughter, Kate, belted out a holiday tune. The duet took the stage to perform, "Winter Wonderland" and the 11-year-old held her own as her daddy smiled on. Perhaps the young lady will follow in father's toe tappin' footsteps. Harry and his wife, Jill, are also parents to Georgia, 12, and Charlotte, 6.

Trendtotting: Cherry Cherry Cute

Last year in the early Spring, I started to think about my child's first Easter and what she would wear for the dressy occasion. Hailing from the South, I imagined I'd doll her up in a smocked dress or something absurdly cute with bunnies or easter eggs adorning it. But when I came across the famous cherry outfit ($60) that JFK, Jr. wore as a little boy, I knew that's what I wanted for her.

The St. Louis Women's Exchange has been making these fabulous cherry garments for decades. It sounds insane to think about Spring holidays this early, but if you want one of these fruity frocks, you have to be ahead of the game as they sell out quite quickly.

Spice up your reading library with this selection from Bill Martin Jr. A well-worn copy of his Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See is probably sitting on your child's bookshelf right now.

I was recently introduced to one of his later books, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and our entire family bopped along to its rhythmic beat.

The quirky story, about the letters of the alphabet all trying to climb up a coconut tree, is filled with jazzy lines that are sure to put a smile on your lil one's face. The book is an introduction to the alphabet and lines such as, "Skit skat skoodle doot. Flip flop flee. Everybody running to the coconut tree" remind you that all books do not have to have a point in order to be enjoyed. Scholastic has even created a short movie about it!

Jennifer Hudson Says She's Got a Mini Me on Her Hands

It looks like David Otunga Jr. may be following his mommy down the yellow brick road and right up to center stage. Though her baby boy isn't even two months old, the star-crooner Jennifer Hudson says he's already displaying a love for music, just like his mama. The talented lady chatted with reporters at the Netflix performance of The Wizard of Oz where she belted out some tunes alongside the Dancing With the Stars gal Julianne Hough. She said:

He seems like he's very interested in music already. The other night he was having a fit screaming, and someone turns on the music and he just stops and calms down. And I was exactly the same way as a baby. . . . Sometimes when he cries, I try to harmonize!

Baby Usher has got some big shoes to fill as his daddy has made quite a name for himself in the music world. A fashionable papa to boot, it seems the lil guy is keeping up to speed with his own little suede boots on the playground. Swinging the afternoon away with his parents at a Beverly Hills park, I'm sure the tot was thinking to himself, "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah! Yeah, Yeah! Yeaah!"
