Politikids: Kid Zui Allows Children to Cast Their Votes

Kids stay connected on the Internet so it makes sense that the social networking site for small frys (ages 3-12), Kid Zui, is encouraging them to express their political opinions online as well. Minors can cast their vote for the presidency in the mock election as their parents head to the polls. Here are a couple interesting tidbits.

Obama is favored by a 10 percent margin with 52 percent and McCain is at 42 percent.
For wee ones who want to do their research, there's a feature that allows them to befriend candidates. Young users can view McCain and Obama's profile pages, which include their favorite sites, videos, and pictures.

This is a great way to teach your tots how to make educated decisions and a difference!

Who Would You Trust to Babysit Your Kid: Obama or McCain?

Voting for the United States Commander in Chief is clearly different from voting for your favorite babysitter. However, I have to think that the person you trust to push the war button might be someone you'd be willing to leave your child with while you enjoy a night on the town.

In the spirit of Super Tuesday, I have to ask, who would you rather babysit your child? Barack Obama or John McCain? Tell me why in the comments below.

Would You Swing Your Vote to Put a Mom in Office?

As moms, when we cast our votes we cast them not only for ourselves, but for our under-aged children. John McCain made an interesting and likely calculated decision when he tapped Sarah Palin to be his running mate. The Governor of Alaska is a parent to five children aged 4 months to 19 years old - Track, Bristol, Willow, Piper, and Trig. While Palin's juggling of career and family (including a son with special needs - her baby was diagnosed with Down syndrome) certainly is admirable, is it enough for the Republicans to win your vote?

Are the 72-year-old presidential candidate and the 44-year-old mother your idea of a dream team?

Baby Wellness: McCain Enters Autism Debate

Senator John McCain threw his hat into another ring, the autism debate. The Republican presidential candidate commented on the cause of the developmental disorder while in Texas.

According to a recent New York Times article, he said:

“It’s indisputable that autism is on the rise among children,” Senator John McCain said while campaigning recently in Texas. “The question is, What’s causing it? And we go back and forth, and there’s strong evidence that indicates that it’s got to do with a preservative in vaccines.”

There has long been a heated debate between parents and scientists about the preservative, thimerosal. The piece said:

Several large-scale studies have found no evidence of a link between thimerosal and autism, and medical groups including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Institute of Medicine and the American Academy of Pediatrics have publicly stated as much. In January, California reported an increase in autism cases, despite the removal of thimerosal from most vaccines.

Evidence and parental opinions aside, as moms we have the instinct to protect our offspring.

Xavier Roberts's chubby faced dolls stole the hearts of most American girls and boys in the '80s and are said to be making a comeback with kids today. So it's only fitting that toy best known for having a signature on its rear has gotten caught up in the hoopla of the presidential election. The special edition Barack Obama, Joe Biden, John McCain and Sara Palin dolls will be auctioned off on Ebay for charity.

Woman Only Passed Out Candy to Kids Who Support McCain!

A Michigan woman in support of John McCain turned Halloween into more of a trick than a treat for Barack Obama supporters and their tots who went to her door. Using the opportunity to push her political agenda, Shirley Nagel handed out packs of M&M's stapled to McCain/Palin collateral only to those voting for the Republican ticket. She said there were no handouts for Obama supporters, liars, tricksters or kids of supporters. Parents and neighbors were outraged.

Tell Mommy: Could You Do It?

This year has been full of firsts: Barack Obama duked it out with Senator Hillary Clinton for the Democratic presidential ticket. Now Senator John McCain has picked Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin to be his running mate - the first woman to be on a Republican Presidential ticket.

As women are making headway in the political arena, some have their doubts about Palin being able to govern with a full plate at home. She is a mother to five - including a baby with Down syndrome and a 17-year-old daughter who is expecting her first child. As a pregnant mother of one, I'm already concerned about how I will manage work, nursing and running my household. Kudos to Mrs. Palin if she can handle the country's second highest office while maintaining her family.

If elected, perhaps her personal experiences will bring light to special needs issues, maternity leave and teenage pregnancy. At the same time, I wonder if she were a man, would anyone be discussing this?

Baby Bait For Presidential Candidates

One of the Presidential candidates will be the future leader of our country, but would you trust them to hold your babe? One dad did.

Darren Garnick, father of two, recants his experience hitting the campaign trail for pictures of Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, John McCain, John Edwards, Rudy Giuliani, Dennis Kucinich, Bill Richardson and Mitt Romney with his 5-month-old daughter, Dahlia in a recent Slate article. He wrote:

"As a resident of the "Live Free or Die" state, I'll concede that the New Hampshire presidential primary gives us ridiculously disproportionate influence. But I love the fact that my state's electoral power comes with a great fringe benefit: It's easy to enshrine the next president in your family scrapbook. A sucker for political kitsch, I set out to photograph my 5-month-old daughter, Dahlia, in the arms of every candidate with a prayer of making it to the White House."

The quest for photographs took Garnick from a parade to a private party and a sporting goods shop to a bookstore. But, he is no novice when it comes to getting political figures to say cheese with his lil ones. He admitted:

"During the 2004 presidential race, I took a few photos of my then 2-year-old boy, Ari, with Democrats Howard Dean, Joe Lieberman, and Wesley Clark. As a first-time parent, I was overly protective and had most of the candidates pose next to his stroller."
