At last week's Let's Rock event, a little thing Steve announced was overshadowed by stuff like new iPods and a fix-all iPhone update: Genius! Part of the iTunes 8 update, Genius is a fun new feature for iTunes and iPods, which, I admit, didn't impress me at all when I was first hearing about it.
How silly I was!

One of the announcements at the Let's Rock presentation last week was the iPhone 2.1 update. Steve Jobs boasted that this update will improve your reception, cut down on dropped calls, and exterminate system bugs.
After spending about 30 minutes updating my firmware, I can tell you that it's a vast improvement!

New iPod Nano's and Touches and iTunes oh my! As you can probably tell, I'm still getting over all of the exciting Apple announcements from the Let's Rock event here in San Francisco yesterday. But what about the minor details, and more importantly, the downloads?

If the name of Steve Job's latest presentation — Let's Rock — led you to believe that he would be unveiling new iPods, you would be right! The big news of the morning obviously was the new Nanos!

There's an interesting article in the Wall Street Journal today about a trend toward record companies pulling their artists' records from the iTunes Music Store — and/or avoiding iTunes altogether — because selling singles at Apple's mp3 store isn't always as profitable (or necessary) as people think. Kid Rock's latest album, Rock 'n Roll Jesus, was never sold on iTunes, for example, and he still managed to sell 1.7 million copies in the US alone. Estelle is on the same label as Rock, and after seeing how well his album has done, the label yanked hers from iTunes as well — even though she currently has one of the hottest singles of the Summer.
