Didn't Quite Get the Holiday Cards Ordered? There's Always New Year's Cards!

The rabbit doesn't always win the race! Sure your mantel may be filled with beautiful cards picturing smiling children wishing you a happy holiday, but just because you didn't get around to ordering your family's cards before Christmas, doesn't mean you've lost the race! A new tradition - sending New Year's cards - is gaining momentum and procrastinating mamas are loving it!

I spoke with Meg Bohnert, Shutterfly’s card stylist, and learned that the sending of New Year's cards is growing in popularity. She said, "New Year's is a time to start fresh and wish family and friends well - it's an optimistic time for many, and they want to express that in their holiday card and greeting." As far as when to send them out so recipients don't think Mom was just late in stamping her holiday cards, Meg said, "If you want to send out a New Year's card and make it look intentional, you should have the greeting 'Happy New Year' in your message to friends and family and send it after Christmas."

Holiday Cards Go Digital: Sincerely Ink

Hot on the heels of Apple's own Cards app, Sincerely, the company behind Postagram, are bringing holiday cards into the digital age. The company will soon be launching Sincerely Ink, a DIY cardmaker that allows you to create and personalize a holiday card on your iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch, and send it off to your relatives and besties without ever needing to step foot into a paper store or post office. You don't even have to get up from the couch, really.

There are over 50 card designs to choose from and each is affordable. A 5-x-7 card can be signed, stamped, and delivered for under $2. Bonus - your Postagram contacts will carry over to Sincerely Ink, and you can even bang out a card for your entire holiday list in one fell swoop by adding your friends and family's contact info Sincerely's new online address book.

An exact launch date hasn't been announced just yet, so stay tuned for more. These cards are sure to be as adorable and stylish as the postcards from Postagram!

Casa Quickie: Repurpose Your Holiday Cards

Now that Dec. 25 has come and gone, we probably all have handfuls of "Seasons Greetings" lined up on our mantels or pinned to our refrigerators. Instead of stashing those cards in a drawer with last year's, you might as well put them to good use.

Send yours to St. Jude's Ranch For Children, a safe home that rescues abused, abandoned, and neglected children. St. Jude's runs a 30-year-old recycling-card program to benefit the children, which will make those goods wishes worth much more than words. The children participate in the program by making new cards. After removing the front of donated cards, they attach a new back made with recycled paper, and then they are sold.
