Amanda Peet Defends Her Stance on Vaccines

Telling Cookie magazine that parents who don't vaccinate their children are parasites has brought a lot of negative press to Amanda Peet. The mother of 18–month–old Frankie denies any connection between autism and vaccines. In a star war of sorts, actress Jenny McCarthy, mother to autistic son Evan, is in the opposite camp that believes the two are linked.

Amanda's critics claim she hasn't done the research to know enough about an undeniable link, but if you listen to her Good Morning America interview, you may find she knows a thing or two. Whether you agree with her or not, that's a different story. She is set to hold a press conference with the American Academy of Pediatrics later today.

Freakonomics Authors Say Car Seats Can Be as Effective as Seat Belts

Maybe our parents weren't so wrong after all. At least that's what the authors of SuperFreakonomics would have us believe. Moms and pops take every precaution to protect their wee ones from harm, including installing top of the line car seats with the highest safety ratings. On Good Morning America, dads and writers Steven Levitt and Stephen Dubner told Robin Roberts that car seats may not be the key to keeping tots protected. Rather, the two men argue that harness restraints, like a regular old seat belt, will guard children against harm like a car seat or booster. While they don't promote ditching the seats all together, the below video does make one wonder about the modern day approach.

Jon Gosselin Says Kate Was Abusive and Took His Ring

Jon Gosselin stayed silent for a while, but now he's telling all. The famous father of eight sat down with Chris Cuomo and dished about everything from being abused by his soon-to-be ex-wife to the other reasons why their relationship is permanently broken. A teaser ran on Good Morning America today highlighting tidbits from the three-hour interview, which has has been turned into an episode of Primetime: Family Secrets and airs tonight. Check out what Jon had to say:

On the unfair way he is portrayed on magazine covers: "Let's finish what we need to finish and get on with our lives."
On what happened to his 20s: "I was married at 22. I had twins at 23. I had sextuplets at 27. Bye Bye 20s."
On what really broke up the marriage: "I was verbally abused. I was beaten down. She separated me from my family. She used to hold the kids over my head and say, "'Don't spend time with your mom. Spend time with your kids.' Why can't I spend time with my mom and my kids together? I'm not going back to that lifestyle."
On despising Kate: "I can't sit on the sofa with that woman - with someone I despise."
On their wedding rings: "I think she (Kate) still wears the ring for public perception. I don't wear my ring because she took my ring."

Babe Is Born, Is It OK to Say You Shouldn't Have Had Sex?

Teen mama Bristol Palin is promoting abstinence for the Candie's Foundation. The mom to five-month-old son Tripp spoke out about why girls should wait to have sex on Good Morning America in honor of today being National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy. After saying she wished she had waited, she added:

"My son is a blessing. He's the best thing that ever happened to me. He's the love of my life but I do wish that years from now I could have had the same son."

Family Ties: Mother or Father Knows Best?

Co-parenting is nothing new, but when a couple juggles working full time and raising their children on their own, tag teaming becomes all the more important - or does it? For four years, my husband and I have taken care of our two kids and dual careers without enlisting childcare. While it's a dream in many ways - we've watched every milestone and been able to spend those crucial and fleeting first years with our kids, it's also a challenge.

The technical bugs like who needs to be where have been worked out, but things like laundry piles and wiping down the kitchen counters are more a matter of perspective. We have the same game plan, but play on different fields. When I'm with my son and daughter, they follow more of a routine, pick up after themselves and sit down for meals. Their daddy's agenda is completely different. The threesome spends every moment possible outside digging ditches in the dirt, climbing structures and engaging in activities that would likely give uncoordinated me a heart attack. Meals happen as they do and the same goes for cleaning up messes. But conflicting parenting styles aside, I know that splitting their time between us will make them more well rounded individuals. A recent segment on Good Morning America covered this issue. Moms and dads are typically different, but experts seem to think the contrasts have little effect on the children. It said:

"The bottom line for children is, 'I don't have just one and a half person who is nuts about me. I have two and they are kind of nuts about me in interesting ways. They bring out different parts of me,'" explains Kyle Pruett, M.D., a child psychiatrist and the author of "Father Need: Why Father Care Is as Essential as Mother Care for Your Child."

I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant Until I Had the Baby!

Occasionally we hear about women who say they didn't know they were pregnant until they went into labor. The tiny jolts I am currently feeling in my tummy make stories like that hard to believe, but the mommies in the video below are convincing that their unknowing pregnancy was the real deal.

Dr. Kristen Bendikson of USC told Good Morning America's Robin Roberts that these situations can occur when ladies suffer from polycystic ovarian syndrome or enter their perimenopausal transition stage. In both cases, menstrual cycles aren't regular so missing a period may not denote pregnancy. Also a key factor for many women is their weight. The heavier a person is before pregnancy, the less noticeable a weight gain would be in a nine month period. Tell me, do you think you could have missed the pregnancy signals?

My Baby Has Gone Political

I won't beat around the "Bush" when it comes to my political preference - Barack Obama is my man. When the primaries started, I taught my wee one to say, "O–Bama." It was one of her first words and now she states his whole name, "Rock Obama." Proud of my budding po"lil"tico, she can identify him in newspapers, magazines and on television ads.

As I readied myself for another day at the office, I turned on the boob tube to catch up on current events. My daughter pointed to Good Morning America's weather man, Sam Champion and said, "Rock Obama!" I curiously glanced at the television and said, "No. He doesn't look a thing like Obama!" She kept pointing and repeated, "Obama."

It made me realize three things - I let her watch too much television, Barack Obama dominates the news, and she may even think my name is Barack Obama! Or, perhaps she's just trying to win points with James Wilkie Broderick by hopping on the Obama bandwagon.

Is the Pregnant Man a Hoax?

In the last few days, the news has been buzzing about a transgender (woman–turned–man except for the sexual organs) fellow who claims to be 20 weeks pregnant with a baby girl.

But, Thomas Beatie's neighbors and others aren't convinced he's telling the truth. One neighbor said:

Quite frankly, I think it's a hoax. I saw him a few days ago, and he didn't look like that.

Since Thomas kept his female reproductive parts, he was able to conceive. Having taken testosterone injections for years, the former female looks like an expectant man. Obstetrician Lisa Masterston from Cedar Sinai told Good Morning America that there is one other transgender pregnancy on record and that it's entirely possible if all the parts are still in place. She also said the dad-to-be should stop his hormone injections for the sake of the baby's reproductive organs.

Celeb Mama Reese Witherspoon Talks About Self-Acceptance

Starlet Reese Witherspoon accepts her imperfections and is teaching her kids to do the same. The actress/producer was on Good Morning America recently talking about her latest project, Penelope - a movie about a young woman's road to self-acceptance.

The celeb mama talked candidly about raising her children, Ava, 8, and Deacon, 4, to deal with life's setbacks. We imagine one being the breakup of the blond Hollywood family when Reese and ex-husband, actor Ryan Phillippe divorced last year.
