Madrid-based ninetonine furniture makers cater to modern kid. Its fun, versatile designs are created from sustainable sources, using certified nontoxic lacquers. The latest addition to its line - the Deskhouse - is a drool-worthy centerpiece that can serve as a double-sided drafting table, complete with a chimney for crayon and marker storage or a playhouse. The company's unique pieces like the zebra-inspired crib, a shelf that looks like plates and spoons and a caterpillar-like stool add whimsy to wee ones' rooms. Fun comes with a price as these Spanish designs start at $355 and max at $1,500.

Knoll Kids Cuts Mid-Century Design Down to Size

There's contemporary nursery design and then there is mid-century classic design on which most modern furniture is based. KnollStudio, long considered one of the pioneers of workplace design, is preparing for a new generation of furniture-lovers with the launch of Knoll Kids.

The kiddie line includes tot-scaled versions of the manufacturer's most popular pieces, including the famed Womb chair and stools designed by Maya Lin. Though the prices will leave most design fanatics doing little more than dreaming, the pieces are certainly inspirational.

Preparing for baby number two has got me nesting and reconfiguring nurseries and bedrooms. Not wanting to spend a huge amount on another glider, I started searching for a comfortable yet modern rocker for my toddler's bedroom. If I had the extra money, I might splurge on the sassy brown swank chair, as the padded arms look quite comfy. But my thrifty brain steers me otherwise.

Simple: At $149, Ikea's Lillberg rocker would suit a traditional, modern or artsy type child's room. Add some punch to the white cushions with sprightly decorative pillows.
Swank: If money is no object, the $900 Sleepytime Rocker is sure to send your tot into sweet dreams. The microsuede fabric makes it easy to clean and cozy to lounge on. If brown doesn't suit your fancy, you can have it custom made with the upholstery of your choosing.

Pimp Your Crib: Restoration Hardware Baby & Child Debuts

Almost a year after announcing their intention to enter the kiddie market, Restoration Hardware introduced its Baby & Child line this week. The line, which includes furniture, bedding, floor coverings, baby clothes, gifts and home accessories is accessible through its own website and catalog. The company plans to introduce it in select stores later this year.

The traditional products mirror the parent company's muted tone, mixing dark browns with baby blues, pastel pinks and neutral sages. Similar in style to its competitors at Pottery Barn Kids and Land of Nod, the pieces are somewhat pricier with cribs ranging from $800 to $1,000.

Designers call the mini vintage Harry Bertoia chair a "classic revitalization," but I'm not certain your average mom would agree. The chair, $850, is made up of more than 2,500 strands of closed-cell extruded sponge cord hand knotted to the chair form. While the look is incredibly fun, I can't imagine cleaning it is a picnic in the park. Would you buy this for your kid's room?
