Appropriate to Post Personal Questions on Facebook Wall?

Sure, Facebook accounts make for an easy way for mom to connect with friends and keep them posted on the major milestones like baby's first steps to the mundane - the number of diapers she's changed. But, should the publishing of personal items be up to her or is it appropriate for inquiring minds to pose questions on her wall - have her postpartum stitches healed or what she really thinks of her nanny? Along those lines, what about putting women on the wall spot by asking if their fertility treatment worked, how much they charge to babysit or when they plan on having children? Is this just part of social networking or is it plain rude?

School Year's Resolutions: Edit What Goes on Internet!

As the kiddos return to school, proud parents will snap shots of their children heading into class. Some mommy bloggers have launched photo contests encouraging fellow moms to upload pictures of their youngsters under their school signs. Tweens post their class assignments and schedules on Facebook to compare with friends. Young athletes tweet the location of their sports practice and games. And looking to hang out with others, kids twitter their whereabouts and contact information. While technology allows families the benefit of being constantly connected, take precaution. Too much seemingly harmless information on public sites allows strangers access to your personal lives. Here are some good tips to follow on public forums:

Do not post pictures of your children with uniforms or signs that identify where they go to school.
Do not post your child's class or sports schedule.
Educate your tweens so they do not tweet their whereabouts.
Do not publish personal contact information including phone numbers and addresses.
Do not publish the means of transportation your child uses - pictures of car with license plate, bus line, or the route they walk.

Do You Hide Behind Your Children on Social Networking Sites?

Time stretched parents can't keep their fingers from the keyboard when it comes to social networking sites. Some mamas say they are addicted and others consider logging on a guilty pleasure. Seventy-five percent of lilsugar readers use Facebook, Twitter and the like to check in on friends and family, but we're curious what type of picture is on your profile page. Is it your mug or your mini mes?

Feminist author Katie Roiphe recently noticed that many of her acquaintance’s Facebook pages only featured photos of their offspring or showcased the moms holding their children rather than solo shots. She argued that the photos are representative of a shift in how highly-educated, well-rounded women view themselves – not as independent adults, but as "over-devoted … to our children’s education, entertainment and general formation."

Are You an Online Networking Mama?

It seems that everyone is "twittering" away or loading pictures onto their Facebook accounts these days. Even President Barack Obama has a Facebook page to keep his fans in the know. I'm guilty and admittedly addicted to the latter, but stand strong against the urge to Twitter though I do follow lilsugar's!

As a mom, I often feel like I hardly have time to breathe, but somehow I find time to occasionally update my Facebook status to let my 550 "friends" know that I just ordered a pillow online. Some of my pals leak every detail of their lives through such methods and while I love to read about them, I'm afraid I'd be in danger of child neglect if I signed up for another group like Totspot or the like. And besides that I'm not sure who really wants to hear about my adventures in potty training! Which sites do you like?

Who Will Watch the Kids at a Destination Wedding?

When a friend is getting married 1,500 miles away, families have to decide whether to bring the kids or leave them at home. Sometimes the choice is made for them but other times, parents must weigh the options. For my last destination wedding, my husband and I chose to bring the tots with us. While it was a fun family trip, it posed one major dilemma - who would watch the children while we go to the wedding? In my case, Facebook came to the rescue.

Some people are wary of social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, but they can actually come in quite handy for mamas in need. After booking our flight, I logged onto my Facebook account and posted a status, "Does anyone have a babysitter in the Texas hill country?" Within minutes, I had three replies offering help and phone numbers. While none of my friends live in the area, they have friends who do and were able to put me in touch with their babysitters. In an hour, I landed a sweet and responsible young lady to watch my children. Just as expected, she showed up on time and ready to work. Other sites like Sittercity and Care Square provide references for caregivers all over the country, but I prefer a direct reference from a friend. And, it's free!

Target's Bullseye Gives Allows Public to Determine Giving

Many shopping mamas toss a dollar in the bucket or on their bill at the checkstand, wondering how retailers determine which charity to support.

Target is taking a different approach with Bullseye Gives, which asks Facebook users to go online and vote how the company should distribute the $3 million it donates to charities on a weekly basis. Visitors can choose from 10 leading charities and see, in real time, how much money the institution will receive that week. Currently, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital has a commanding lead, with one quarter of all votes.

Andy Warhol once said that everybody would have their 15 minutes of fame. What the talented artist didn't know back then was that there would be an online networking phenomenon called Facebook. Like many of my mommy friends, I am addicted and frequently post pictures of my family on my profile page. Forget 15 minutes, my kids are forever famous on Facebook.

The witty company Uncommonly Cute is banking on moms like me to take their obsession a step further with the hysterical tee that touts "Famous on Facebook." If Facebook isn't mama's cup of tea, the other riotous options include, "Elmo is my homeboy" or "I'm kind of a big deal" and "Preschool Musical." Moms who don't mind the attention are guaranteed to get a chuckle or a comment out of strangers.

Moms Angered as Breastfeeding Pics Banned on Facebook

The social networking site Facebook has sparked a large debate after recently removing pictures of women breastfeeding on the site. Facebook spokesman Barry Schnitt said, "Photos containing a fully exposed breast (as defined by showing the nipple or areola) do violate those terms (on obscene, pornographic or sexually explicit material) and may be removed."

As photos are being taken down from the site, many breastfeeding advocates are furious, and have joined forces in a new group called Hey, Facebook, breastfeeding is not obscene! (Official petition to Facebook) and nearly 100 thousand folks have joined the group in petition. Fifty-seven percent of lilsugar mamas said they took pictures while nursing, would you sign the petition? Or do you agree with the site's decision to take down the photos?
