Hysteria Director Tanya Wexler Talks Vibrators, Faking It, and Duck Sex

Don't be shy . . . It's time to talk sex toys! And Hysteria director Tanya Wexler is writing us a prescription for pleasure. Tanya's film - what she calls "the vibrator movie you can bring your mom to" - is in limited release and stars Hugh Dancy, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Rupert Everett. When working on a romantic comedy that centers around the invention of the vibrator, you end up with some entertaining and embarrassing situations along the way, and lucky for us, Tanya spilled all the hilariously dirty details. From teaming up with the film's partner Jimmyjane for a drive-by vibrator drop-off to a certain female Oscar-winner to trying unsuccessfully to get ducks to shag on command, Tanya was bursting with great stories from working on this very unconventional film. And while Tanya isn't ashamed to discuss the sexy subject matter of her latest film with us, the mother of four and her partner of 21 years did have a tricky challenge telling her preteen kids what her movie was about. (She eventually gave them the script and let them figure it out themselves!) Check out our interview with the fun-loving director now, and we dare you not to have a girl crush on her by the end!

TrèsSugar: What were some of the challenges to getting a movie made about vibrators?
Tanya Wexler: Getting the script right was tricky because if you just make a movie about the invention of the vibrator, it's actually a really short movie: you go "bzz" and it's done. And we had a kind of light romantic comedy. I say I made the vibrator movie you can bring your mom to. But some people wanted it to be raunchy or some people wanted it to be more serious and about feminism. People project a lot onto this movie of what they want, because there isn't a lot out there about vibrators and women's pleasure, and we still don't really deal with that topic very well, or we're overly antsy around it. And as a result, people have a lot of ideas of what the movie could and should be, and you can't please everyone. [laughs]

TS: Ha, good one.
TW: It's nonstop!

TS: Do you find sex toys inherently funny or something to be seriously celebrated?
TW: Yes!

TS: Both?
TW: Yes! Yes. I think they make me laugh, and I think that the inner kind of Beavis and Butt-head in all of us goes "[laugh]." You know, that inner 13-year-old, like, "Hahaha vibrator . . . " and yet they're awesome and fun.

TS: What shocked you the most when researching the movie?
TW: That ducks are the rapists of the bird world, and you'll see when you see the movie, because there's a little bit of questionable duck behavior - or awesome duck behavior - in the movie. It's totally a sidebar, but you cannot make ducks shag on command. I'm just saying.

TS: What about the whole history of hysteria being a medical condition?
TW: When I first heard the idea, I was like, "What do you mean it was invented in Victorian times?" I knew about hysteria, but the idea that the treatment was manual [British accent] massage deparaxism - which is what they called it - and, of course, the denial. The most shocking thing is the denial, that they didn't think it was sexual.

TS: Do you think they were really in denial?
TW: No, I don't think that some people were. My college roommate was with her high school boyfriend for two years and she had never had an orgasm. I think there's all kinds of denial, especially with women's sexuality. So the fact that there are young women today who haven't had an orgasm, whether self-induced - which is insane - or with a partner, then why wouldn't we think back then that women wouldn't know what orgasms were?

They would get a massage, and the doctor's saying, "Without a penis, this isn't sex, because sex is about procreation," so what is this? The best physical therapy you've ever had. So once you don't think of it as something other than what the doctor's supposed to do to cure your uncontrollable crying or uncontrollable laughter or whatever, then it's just an awesome muscle spasm. If you don't think women have their own inherent sexuality, then you're not thinking about it like that.

3 Concerns About the New Carrie Remake

A remake of the 1970s horror film Carrie is coming, with Chloe Moretz in the titular role of the tortured high schooler turned telekinetic teen. Even though I'm not a huge horror fan, I still consider Carrie to be a classic - and a movie that doesn't need any updating. Still, the reboot is on its way, and while I'm curious to see how it will translate 36 years later, I have some concerns - check them out below.

The acting in the original will be hard to top. After impressing in films like Kick-Ass, we know that 15-year-old Moretz is certainly talented, but she's filling the shoes of Sissy Spacek, who was nominated for an Oscar for her role as Carrie. It takes a certain quality to take on a character like this, who's shy and withdrawn, and then suddenly psychotic. Can Moretz live up to Spacek's legacy?
It might be silly now. Carrie is terrifying, but there are parts that now feel extremely campy. Carrie's classmates throw tampons at her, Carrie's mom calls her breasts "dirty pillows," and the possessed look on Carrie's face when she's at the prom all make up scenes that are unforgettable, but they're straight up goofy now. An update will need some serious revamping for those elements to not be laughable.
It's already been revisited, and it wasn't good. There was a sequel of sorts in 1999, Carrie 2: The Rage, with new characters set in modern day, but it was a cheap knockoff of the original that just borrowed the concept of the gifted teenager. As far as the new remake goes, director Kimberly Peirce has a solid credit behind her (Boys Don't Cry), but it'll be hard to measure up to legendary director Brian De Palma, who's also responsible for iconic films like Scarface.

Dating Bad Habits to Give Up For Lent (or Anytime)

Yesterday kicked off Lent, and whether you're religious or not, you might be giving up vices like soda or sugar. Why not make your love life a little sweeter while you're at it. Here are some bad dating and relationship habits to swear off. We have ideas for single and taken women.

Tipsy texting. Give up those drunk dials that only make a hangover worse.
Waiting for guys to make the first move. If you want to meet guys, you have to put yourself out there. Something as simple as a smile or flirty eye contact will do.
Living in the past. For Lent, let yourself forget your failed relationships, disappointments, or mistakes. Releasing that baggage will make you more open to new experiences and people.
Wasting time on a guy you're not into. He may be good on paper, but if you don't have the spark or see a long-term future, don't date him.
Wasting time on a guy who's not into you. For Lent, ditch the guy who's sending you mixed messages. Next!
Hiding your true self. You want to be that "cool girl" who doesn't care if he hangs out with the boys every weekend. But if it bothers you when he doesn't give you enough time and affection, tell him. It's the only way you'll find a truly happy, sustainable relationship.
Focusing on his flaws. Is his hairline receding? Did he talk about his job a little too much when you first met him? Did he make an awkward joke in front of your friends? If you focus on these minor flaws, instead of your overall connection, you're never going to get past the first date. Don't settle, but also give a guy a chance to impress you.
Focusing on your flaws. Whether you get down about the fact that it's been ages since your last relationship, or that you're more shy than your other friends, don't let that dictate your dating life. Instead this Lent, think about what makes you and your personality attractive and promise that you'll accentuate those qualities.
Worrying constantly about what your friends think. Don't let your friends' opinion of your man's job, personality, looks, or background influence you too much or turn you off from a guy. Listen to their earnest advice, while trusting your own feelings for him.
Limiting yourself to a type. Don't let the words "he's not my type," leave your mouth, whether you're online dating or getting set up on a date.
Waiting for his text or call. Stop letting his text or lack thereof make or break your day.
Always going back to an ex. It didn't work out for a reason. Instead of wasting emotional resources on an ex, resist the temptation to text, Facebook stalk, or meet up for a hookup when you're feeling lonely.

Kate Beckinsale Tells Conan She Loves Penis Jokes

Something about Kate Beckinsale, maybe her proper British accent and mom status, gave us the impression that she's not a fan of dirty jokes - but boy were we wrong! On Conan last night, she addressed Seth Rogen's erection joke at the Golden Globes by saying that she loves penis jokes and getting a jab in about Seth's, ahem, size. But then she took it even further by explaining that joking about genitals runs in the family (even her 13-year-old daughter gets in on the fun), and sharing a hilarious story about a giant fake penis she hid in her mom's luggage en route to the airport. OnSugar Blog: What's in Your Diaper Bag?

Lots of moms like to think out loud, and CherylDee is one of them. Here is one of the latest posts to her Lipsticks to Baby Bottles blog.

Prior to having Kiara, I always wondered why parents were lugging around this huge bag on top of having to push a stroller with a baby. I thought, "Seriously? Aren't you carrying just a little too much?" Boy was I wrong! Now that I have a child, I can totally relate! I always pack spares now. I learned my lesson! You never know when your child might dirty themselves. And trust me, it always happens!

So here's how my diaper bag looks. (Thank you mum for giving it to me!) It's from Kipling. It also comes with a changing pad too! It's funny because my step dad actually bought that bag for my mum without realizing that it was a diaper bag. She likes big chunky bags that's why!

The inner organizer piece that holds everything in place can be taken out, but I like that it has extra pockets to store other things like extra clothes, burp cloths, pacifier and bottle nipple wipes etc. The side pockets are the perfect size to put in our nappy cream as well as the milk powder storage container! Love it! Now that Kiara takes solids, I also carry her food in a container which fits perfectly in it too.

Here's my list of items I have in my diaper bag:

6 pieces of nappies
Huggies Wet Wipes
2 bottles (1 for Milk, 1 for Juice) + Bottel warmer holder
4 extra pairs of onesies
Pacifier & Nipple wipes
Nappy Cream
Disinfectant spray
Yu Yee Oil (Cap Limau) or Minyak Telon in Lavender (This works wonders for wind! I always put it on her tummy!)
Pacifier
Toys! Lots of Toys!

The Ides of March: Victory, but Not a Landslide

George Clooney takes the director's chair for political drama The Ides of March, which he also stars in as Pennsylvania governor and presidential hopeful Mike Morris. The real star of the film is Ryan Gosling, though, as a crackerjack strategist working on Morris's campaign during the Democratic primary. With that kind of star power behind and in front of the camera, I was expecting an immaculately crafted thriller, but The Ides of March doesn't live up to its potential.

The premise is as promising as Morris's Obama-esque campaign posters: Stephen (Gosling) is a key part of Morris's bid for a presidential nomination, not just for his savvy but for his optimism and belief in the candidate. When Stephen discovers a sticky situation the governor is involved in, he has to decide his next move. At the same time, he's being courted by a rival campaign, which also challenges his loyalty to Morris.

As Stephen transforms from an idealistic employee into a jaded cog in the machine, his trajectory is engaging, but could be more riveting. Though the plot keeps you intrigued long enough to find out what happens to the characters, there's not enough background or development to make you care about any of them. Grey's Anatomy Rundown, "What Is It About Men"

Let's hear it for the boys! The ladies of Seattle Grace are MIA, allowing this week's episode of Grey's Anatomy to focus solely on the menfolk. Each of the male surgeons is dealing with some feelings of anger, whether it be in their career or personal life - but, as the episode tells us, that doesn't mean they want to talk about it. Ultimately, Derek signs up all of his colleagues for his house-building anger management program, and helps the guys hammer out their problems. Literally.

There are bromance troubles brewing with the patients too, as the latest disaster to hit Seattle involves a freak accident at a local comic book convention. You know what that means: zombie nurses, hobbits, and Game of Thrones references abound. It's one of the more comical episodes we've seen in awhile, which is a refreshing change of pace. Let's break it down when you

In the few moments that Meredith appears in this episode, we see that she and Derek are sharing a bed again, but there's still some tension between them. Derek's none-too-pleased about having a new resident on his staff, and it only makes things worse when Karev makes no attempt to hide his apathy toward neuro. Luckily, Derek's found a solution - building his new deck! He heads out there to deal with his frustrations, and over the course of the episode, offers solace to his friends as well.
Owen's trying to settle into his new job as chief of surgery, but it's not exactly a smooth transition. Getting bogged down in paperwork makes him feel helpless, so he tries getting rid of his office to make himself feel more useful. When that doesn't work, Hunt decides to get his hands dirty - by punching out a big guy who's making a ruckus in the ER. His transgression is fun to watch throughout the episode; it's easy to see that he's uncomfortable being the head honcho in the big office, and much prefers to be down in the trenches taking care of business.
Owen's not the only one having trouble adjusting; Webber is in a state of limbo. His fellow surgeons still see him as the chief that's too good to be roughing it with them, while he just wants to be part of the action. He finds his niche in teaching Jackson and Karev to appreciate what they've got. (Speaking of which, how depressing are the scenes where Webber is talking about Adele?) He does eventually get through to the young whippersnappers, and has Karev finding the "joy" in his surgeries again.
Jackson finally finds a solution to his issues with Mark. Derek sees the potential in Jackson and offers him a surgery in neuro, but Jackson sticks to his guns - and sticks it to Mark, using reverse psychology on him to convince Mark that he deserves to lead a surgery a plastics. Unfortunately, when he hints that he might want to work with Derek, Mark lashes out at his friend for stealing Jackson away.
As for Mark, he's on solo baby-sitting duty while Arizona and Callie are away, which of course, is the time that baby Sofia decides to roll over for the first time (is it just me or did she roll right off the couch?). When Sofia seems too content, Mark automatically assumes that something must be wrong with her. As it turns out, he's just being a good dad, and Sofia's fine. That's not enough to calm Mark down, though; he's been quietly holding a grudge about being passed over for Owen's job. Derek's answer to Mark's problems? He needs to get laid.

The Hangover Part II: A Less Funny Morning After

The expectations for the sequel to The Hangover really couldn't have been higher, considering how beloved the original is. Before you see the film, I advise that you severely lower the bar for The Hangover Part II, because it is, unfortunately, a shadow of its predecessor. In the second film, Phil (Bradley Cooper), Stu (Ed Helms), Doug (Justin Bartha) and Alan (Zach Galifianakis) are headed to a wedding and want to have one last bachelor party hurrah before one of them gets married. Sound familiar? It should. The plot is exactly the same as the first movie.

Sure, there are some tweaks. This time, it's Stu that's getting married, and the boys are all headed to Thailand for the event. When the guys decide to have a low-key night before the wedding, they toast their beer bottles . . . and then wake up the next morning in Bangkok with absolutely no memory of the previous evening. They spend the rest of the movie piecing together the details of the night so they can locate a missing member of their group.

The Hangover Part II is a retread that's so close to the original, you wonder if the writers doubted its audience's intelligence or were just too lazy to come up with something new. Either way, the movie and its signature wolf pack still get laughs, but it's lacking the magic that made the original Hangover an instant classic. To see what else I thought, just

I was eager to see the wolf pack reunite, but it would have been nice to see some character development. Instead, the sequel only exaggerates the personalities of the men. Phil is more obnoxious, Alan is even more awkward and eccentric, and so on. Chow (Ken Jeong) is the only character that's more entertaining the second time around. More of a friend than villain in this film, Jeong mercilessly steals every scene he's in. With everyone else stuck in the same mold, Jeong's distinction and nonchalant comedic performance make him the standout.

One way The Hangover Part II surpasses the first film is in the gross-out humor. Clearly the filmmakers felt pressure to top themselves, and in the sequel they succeed to the point of discomfort. That dirty feeling is pervasive. Where the first film was a bit dark, it was also balanced with some lightness - the guys could at least laugh a little about their antics. But in Part II, the more we learn about what they got up to the night before, the less we want to know. You feel as filthy as they do, and the grimy backdrop of Bangkok's more depraved establishments contributes to that effect.

The setting, the repercussions of the night before, and the stakes of the missing person all plunge you into a movie that doesn't always feel like a comedy. Everything gets worse before it gets better, and the "better" part, the ending, still left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Ultimately, it's just another sequel that tries for its predecessor's greatness and falls far short.
