Man Faces Charges After Slapping a Stranger's Tot in Walmart

What would you do if a stranger slapped your toddler across the face? Atlanta-area police arrested a 61-year-old man this week after he allegedly smacked a 2-year-old who wouldn't stop crying. According to witnesses, the man told the little girl's mother, "If you don’t shut that baby up, I will shut her up for you." When the little girl continued to whimper, the man – who did not know the family – grabbed her and struck her four or five times, saying "See, I told you I would shut her up." He has been charged with first-degree cruelty to children.

The victim's mother says she is doing okay, but the incident has many people shaking their heads. Plenty of children act up in public places, how would you react if a stranger struck your lil one? Watch the video clip when you, read more.

Taser Your Child at Work Day: Prison Officials Placed on Leave

Take Your Child to Work Day gives parents an opportunity to show their children what they do on a daily basis and open their youngsters' minds about their own futures. But, it appears five Florida state prison authorities had a different idea when it came to showing kids the occupational ropes - the workers allegedly used a stun gun on visiting youth. Children between the ages of eight and fourteen were tased on April 23 while at Martin Correctional Facility. Those accused of shocking the youth have been placed on paid administration leave pending the investigation. The report did not say if the case involves parents and their offspring.

Does the Consequence Fit the Crime For Child Selling?

Drug lords get lengthy prison sentences for peddling their wares, but what consequences do parents face for selling offspring? After failing to bond with her 5-month-old son, a West Virginia mom sought $10,000 for her babe. The 19-year-old later sliced the price in half, hoping to close the deal quicker and secure money for an apartment.

The woman who the mom tried to sell the child to reported her to the police. She was arrested and the tot was taken into state custody. As frightening as the situation may seem, it was not the most shocking part of the report. The mama's bail is set at just $2,500 and she faces rather mild consequences for her horrendous action. It said:

A felony charge of offering the purchase or sale of a child carries a fine of $100 to $2,000 and one to five years in prison.

The Business of Babies Isn't Always an Honest One

For some couples with fertility issues, adoption and surrogacy can be their only options for fulfilling dreams of having a family. But, not everyone involved in the baby business is on the up and up. Consider the adoptive parents that found out their Samoan children had been stolen from their biological parents and placed in America under false pretenses by Focus On Children adoption agency. Thirty-seven children were involved, but the agents who facilitated the placements were charged with just misdemeanors.

It's equally devastating to think about the hopeful parents now caught in the midst of SurroGenesis's situation. Couples placed money in trust funds for the company to pay their surrogates, but the money went missing. One report said:

On one level, this looks like any other financial scandal. But the pregnancies add a whole new dimension. Around 70 people are affected. At least one pregnancy plan was reportedly suspended just before extracting the eggs that were to be used. In two other reported cases, the surrogates are in their third trimester. But what about the pregnancies in the middle-too late to call off the fertilization or implantation but not too late for abortion?

Some couples have managed to pay, out of their own funds, the monthly installments that the companies had promised to the surrogates. But others can't. A lawyer involved in the case says, "We've got couples in the midst of pregnancies with no ability to pay the surrogate."

How Would You React If a Child Murderer Moved to Your Town?

Lots of parents search family watchdog sites to see if there are any predators in their community, but residents of a New Hampshire town were made well aware of the fact that a convicted child killer was settling on their soil. Parents in Chichester were outraged when a pastor in their community opened up his home to Raymond Guay who served 35 years in prison for multiple crimes. The New York Times report said:

Mr. Guay was convicted of killing a 12-year-old boy in Hollis, N.H., in 1973, chasing him into the woods before shooting him in the eye. After escaping from a state prison in 1982, he held two residents of nearby Concord hostage in their home. He was later sent to a federal prison in California, where he got in more trouble for stabbing an inmate in 1990.

Fearing for their safety, members of the community have invested in pricey home alarms and firearms despite an increase of police patrols.

Endangerment Charge For Mom Who Breastfed While Driving

One Dayton mom brought multitasking to an entirely different level. Genine Compton was issued a ticket after the driver of another vehicle called police to report that Compton was breastfeeding her one-year-old daughter and talking on her cell phone while driving. While the mother of five doesn't deny the charges, she doesn't believe she should have been issued a citation for something the officer didn't see. She faces a child endangerment charge in court next week in addition to the ticket.

Nine-Year-Old Shot Father and Plead Against Mom's Wishes

A nine-year-old Arizona boy who allegedly shot his father and his friend agreed to a plea bargain despite his mother's wishes. According to the report:

The boy had originally entered a plea of not guilty on charges of double homicide for allegedly shooting his father and another man, but the deal allowed him to plead guilty to one count of negligent murder of the other man. The boy's mother was reportedly against the deal and claimed her son was not old enough to understand the agreement.

The article said detention of the child will be at the court's discretion. As a parent, I'm amazed the state allows young children to decide their fate - do you agree with this practice?

Mommy Alert: Beware of Allowing Your Tots to Stray in Stores

This latest clip is just too close for comfort. Similar to the story we told you about in May, another lil girl was molested in plain site at a big name bookstore. The first incident happened in the children's section of an Arcadia Borders and the most recent occurred at a Corte Madera Barnes & Noble, also in California.

This time, a five-year-old stepped just feet away from her mother who was at the counter paying for goods. But, the short distance and those split seconds provided a predator, who was silent during the attack, enough time to take the child's hand and put it inside his pants. Another incident happened at the same store this past Summer. While holiday shopping, you may be tempted to let your tots peruse the next toy aisle or stray a bit while you're in the checkout line, but in light of these reports, you should think twice about doing so.

Seven-Year-Old Breaks into Zoo, Kills Reptiles and Feeds Croc

Not all seven-year-olds spend their time hanging out in the school yard. A while back, lil Latarian Milton stole his grandmother's SUV and it took it for a joyride plowing through things in his path, but now an Australian boy of the same age has done something even more frightening. The child broke into the Outback zoo and killed 13 reptiles in a rampage some of which he fed to a crocodile. Since he is under the age of 10, Australian law prevents him from being charged with a crime.

Wisconsin Mom Stole Daughter's Identity to Enroll in School

In a bizarre case, another adult has posed as a minor to enroll in school. Career criminal Wendy Brown, 33, stole her fifteen-year-old daughter's identity to enroll in Ashwaubenon High School and join the cheerleading team, but her past caught up with her before she could make the second day of classes. When members of the squad questioned her about looking older, she attributed it to sun damage. First a sex offender fools the Arizona school system into thinking he's a seventh grader and now a woman who looks close to forty passes as a member of the pep squad -do you find these instances alarming?
