Let the wild rumpus begin! Parents and lil ones alike are starting to countdown to one of the most eagerly anticipated kiddie flicks of the year - Where the Wild Things Are! The October 16th launch coincides with Halloween guaranteeing many a Max and monsters pounding the pavements for the spooky holiday.

The characters from Maurice Sendak's classic tale are sure to be one of the most popular costumes of the year. Moms with a knack for sewing are dusting off their machines to create the perfect Max, complete with a pajama-like costume and crown, or the yellow-eyed monsters that proclaim Max their ruler. For mums without the seamstress talent or time, the stores are expecting you. We've scoured the web and rounded up some of the most authentic looking costumes available. Be prepared for sticker shock as looking authentic doesn't come cheap!

Kid Friendly or Are You Kidding? Sexy Girl Costumes

What happened to the good old days of court jesters, witches, Raggedy Anne and teddy bears? Our society has certainly become less prudish, as evidenced by foul language on TV, pants with MILF written on the rears and sex education in kindergarten.

This Halloween, we are sure to see some young girls trick-or-treating in scantily clad costumes that will have their male counterpart's tongues wagging and parents gasping. What do you think of these costume choices? Appropriate or absurd?

No worries if you aren't a seamstress, babysugar has put together this very simple video tutorial for cutting down dresses. Then, add some embellishments from things found around the house - gift ribbon, a broach, a clip-on earring or ric-rac - and your vision comes to life. Pair it with some sparkle or dress shoes your daughter already owns and the ensemble is almost complete.

To put your tot's mark on the costume, give her the aluminum foil that covered last night's brownies so she can cut or twist it into complementary jewels - a crown, a bracelet or magic wand. Halloween Costumes Under $15!

Not all moms are crafty enough to whip up a costume for their precious goblin every Halloween. While you can certainly save pennies by making homemade creations, there are some store-bought outfits that are ripe for the picking and perfectly priced.

Just think, if you don't want to go green for Halloween, you can at least save some green by picking up one of these budget-saving guises for your wee one. Two pumpkins cost about $15 so these getups are a steal!

My favorite Halloween pastime wasn't trick-or-treating, it was the anticipation of wearing my finished costume. As children, my siblings and I would come up with what we wanted to be for Halloween and then my mom, grandma and mainly, my aunt who is an amazing seamstress, would concoct the costumes from scratch. No task was too daunting, when Gremlins became a blockbuster, my brother and I became Stripe and Gizmo with realistic paper mache headpieces. But none compared to the one I wore as Cinderella in first grade. With a few hems, stitches and a hoop skirt made of bent wire hangers, my aunt took an old bridesmaid's dress and made me feel like the belle of the ball.

ECOWEEN: Don't Just Go Green, Make Green Your Theme

We've gone green for Halloween here on lilsugar, which means we are bringing you tricks and treats for celebrating the favorite holiday while encouraging children to make, swap and reuse their costumes. These costumes aren't just made with eco products, but they highlight the recycle, reduce and reuse theme and are great conversation starters for budding conversationalists.

Crush It in a Blue Box - Suit your sweet one up in a familiar blue box full of recyclable items. Their neighborhood buddies will find the costume endearing and your wee one might be able to impart wisdom on a few fellow trick-or-treaters along the way.
Turning Paper Back to Timber - Use some gifts from Mother Nature along with some recyclable items to craft a costume that pays homage to trees. It's the least we can do to pay them back for all of the beauty they provide.
Compostable Child - Many school cafeterias now require children to throw their used napkins and leftover food in the big green bins as the waste can be better used to save our environment. A simple costume to assemble, your tot won't mind spreading the word about the benefits of composting as she trick-or-treats.

Between the fluorescent lightbulb, the blue recycle bin and the tree lover, lilsugar tots are pushing the Eco agenda. To round out the go green costumes, we're putting the lil one in a compost bin!

Many school cafeterias now require children to throw their used napkins and leftover food in the big green bins as the waste can be better used to save our environment. A simple costume to assemble, your tot won't mind spreading the word about the benefits of composting as she trick-or-treats.

Supplies you will need:

Cardboard box
Box cutter or scissors
Green paint
White tape
Hot glue gun and regular glue
Oreos
Gummy worms
Branches or fake flowers

To get started:

Cut the bottom of your box out and three of the four top flaps.
Slice out some spacious armholes for the trick-or-treater.
Paint the box green and allow it to dry.
Use the white tape to spell out "Compost."
Crush some Oreos and use the regular glue to dust some of the crumbs to the edge of the box to signify dirt.
Hot glue some gummy worms around the box as worms thrive on compostable trash.
Hot glue some branches and leaves around the edge of the box.
Place your tot in the box and let her roll!

Ecoween: Turning Paper Back to Timber

One of the oldest green terms of endearment is "tree hugger." Out here in the Bay Area, we have our fair share of them and they love their trees so much that they're willing to live in them for months in an effort to save the natural wonders.

Use some gifts from Mother Nature along with some recyclable items to craft a costume that pays homage to trees. It's the least we can do to pay them back for all of the beauty they provide.

List of things you need:

Cardboard box(es)
String or yarn
Hot glue gun
Green and brown paints
Used green bags that grocers carry for herbs
Green or brown paper (White will work as shown above but green would be much better)
Leaves
Brown or green pants
A small doll (not shown above)

Steps to make the tree:

Cut out two pieces of cardboard the size shoulder to knee length.
Paint one side of each piece brown or copper color and allow it to dry.
Hot glue the leaves onto the brown painted cardboard to create a bark effect.
Punch or cut two holes at each shoulder of each cardboard piece.
Fill the herb bags with green construction paper and tie them off to make balloon type bag.
Hot glue the green filled herb bags to the shoulder areas of each board.
Tie strings to one of the boards. Then attach them to the other side so the two boards hang evenly over your tot's shoulders.
For extra effect, you can dress your lil one up in brown pants and a green top.

My model wouldn't allow me to put the finishing touch on without screaming bloody murder, but if you really want to make a statement with the costume, add a doll to your child's shoulder so it looks like you have a tree sitter demonstrating on the tree's behalf.

Ecoween: Crush It in a Blue Box

Their neighborhood buddies will find the costume endearing and your wee one might be able to impart wisdom on a few fellow trick-or-treaters along the way.

What you will need:

Cardboard Box
Blue paint
White tape
String
Scissors or box cutter
Old cans, plastic bottles, recyclable paper
Hot glue gun

Here's how to make the blue box work for your youngster:

Take your box and paint it blue.
When it dries, use the white tape to create a white recycling symbol on the box.
Use the box cutter to carve out a decent size hole for your tot's waist. Don't make it too big, as you will fill it with recyclable items.
Measure the length of twine for straps and then hot glue them to the front and back of the inside of the box. For better stability, have them crisscross on the back.
Use empty and CLEAN recyclables to fill the box with all sorts of blue bin worthy goodies!
