The book The Lunar Effect, brought the "biological tides theory" to the forefront and the author, Arnold L. Lieber, argued that the moon affects the human body in much the same way as it does the world's oceans. This means that if a woman is close to her due date during a full moon, the pressure caused by the moon's effect on the water inside the amniotic sac could cause it to burst. And even though a recent study has said that birth rates are definitely not affected by the moon's cycle, some women still swear by it. My expectant friend's OBGYN told her not to get her hopes up about it so maybe you shouldn't either. Is There a Baby Boom Under Way?

Everywhere you go, it seems wee ones are on the loose. Airports are full of families trekking their broods to worldly destinations. Hollywood is abuzz with celebabies and more people have multiples. It comes as no surprise that 2007 broke the US records with 4,315,000 births. Besting the year 1957 by 15,000 births. Demographer Stephanie Ventura from the National Center for Health Statistics said:

According to our provisional data, we had the highest number of births ever reported in 2007. . . . What this really reflects is that the population has grown so much in the United States, so you naturally expect more births. . . . It's hard to call this a baby boom at this point.

While the percentage of women having babies may not have surpassed those of the "Baby Boom" years, it certainly seems that one is on the way. Do you think we're coming up on the next big baby boom?

Of course, it’s important to modify your workout to accommodate and support the pregnancy. But that doesn’t mean you can’t work out as hard. It is time to work the core in three planes of motion to strengthen the abdominals for pushing during labor. Robert and Kristen Pose Sexy and Talk "Loving" the Breaking Dawn Birth Scene in EW

The big three from Breaking Dawn posed together for their latest sexy EW cover, which is out just in time for the movie's Friday release. Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner are currently in the homestretch promoting Breaking Dawn Part 1, including at yesterday's UK premiere and during a group interview with Ellen DeGeneres, which airs on tomorrow's show. The trio talked to EW about the highly anticipated honeymoon sex and Bella's birth scenes, both of which were apparently more graphic before they were edited down to ensure the film's PG-13 rating. We also debuted exclusive behind the scenes pictures of pregnant Bella, but nothing compares to seeing it on the big screen, even if it's a toned down version. Here are highlights from the magazine:

On the sex scene:
Robert: "There’s a version where it was really intense"
Kristen: "Cinematically, cut all together, it’s awesome. But we didn’t really do that scene."
Robert: "And when we did, they kept telling us to stop."

On the birth scene:
Kristen: "That’s what I’m really disappointed about - and I’ve talked about it with Bill. It was more sympathetic or something when I played the scene with less energy, and it made it easier for him to tell the story. But in the book, Bella is screaming, ‘NOOOOO!’ [Stewart stands and demonstrates.] And I did it like that - crazy and Exorcist-like. I was going for this weird mix of turning into the most feral mother you can imagine and also fighting for my own life. I mean, I was a nutcase. I was an absolute nutcase."
Taylor: "I do still love the birth scene. I know it’s frustrating that some things aren’t in there."
Kristen: "Yeah. I still love it too."

Would You Try to Avoid a Halloween Birth? Many Women Do!

There's something scary about giving birth on October 31 - at least according to a new study conducted by Yale University's School of Public Health. Analyzing data collected across the US over an eleven-year period, researches found that fewer children are born on Halloween than any other average day. At the same time, Valentine's Day sees a higher than average rate of women giving birth. The study reports:

On Valentine's Day, which conveys positive symbolism, there was a 3.6 percent increase in spontaneous births and a 12.1 percent increase in Cesarean births. Whereas, on Halloween, which conveys negative symbolism, there was a 5.3 percent decrease in spontaneous births and a 16.9 percent decrease in Cesarean births.

The results of the study challenge the generally accepted notion that spontaneous birth is a natural, biological, and largely uncontrollable event, suggesting that the cultural beliefs of the expectant mama impact when she actually goes into labor.
