Everyone benefits from the fun family time, some even make it a team event. Decorating tools and and creative stencils have allowed wee ones to go wild with the gourds while some keep it simple with a knife and spoon.

Sadly not every child can claim that their mother loved them unconditionally and with every ounce of their being. Many women will gush about that immediate affection and connection when they hold their babe in their arms for the first time while others know that it comes with time. Still some moms have to learn how to love their children, as it is not instinctual for everybody.

Everyone knows that babies come in all different shapes and sizes. That's why it was so odd to hear of a healthy but chubby 4-month-old who was recently denied health insurance coverage. His 99th percentile ranking for height and weight for his age made him ineligible for coverage.

Pregnancy is to be celebrated but there are rare occasions when a woman tries to hide her expectant status to reap the benefits of a vacant womb, especially in the workplace. In the "Never Judge a Lady by Her Lover" episode of Desperate Housewives, Carlos gives Lynette a promotion that she initially tries to reject knowing she has two babies in her belly. When the boss man mentions the salary increase, she quickly takes the offer and keeps her mouth shut about her impending arrivals.

Every mom's got one. We may not sneak into a closet to eat the Twinkies stashed in a hidden shoe box but everybody is guilty of an indulgence every now and then. Some mamas treat themselves to a glass of wine every night while others record their soap operas and Gossip Girl.

In the November issue of Prevention magazine, First Lady Michele Obama shares her take on motherhood and happiness, noting that her family and health benefit from her good moods. She says:

A baby shower is for more than showering a mama-to-be with excitement about her impending arrival and gifting big ticket items; the celebration preps parents well in advance. It seems that it takes a village to plan for a first baby — the nursery is ready, the layette is washed, and the rattles have been rinsed months prior to the infant's debut — but waiting for a subsequent baby is much more lax. While expecting my son, I headed to Right Start on my due date with my daughter in tow to stock up on all the items I needed for her brother-to-be.

Everyone focuses on the benefits of breastfeeding for baby and usually include the benefits for mommies as an afterthought. Gunning to get back into their skinny jeans, mamas chat up the calorie burning benefits more than the others. Studies have found that women who nurse tend to have a lower risk of developing certain cancers.
