I'm loving the up in the air trend, from hot air balloons to kites, so when I saw Liz and Rich's wedding that literally has an "Up, Up, and Away" theme, I just had to share it with you! With so many handmade, out-of-the-box elements - hello, hot air balloon piñata and birdie cake topper - I'm having a difficult time coming back to earth from this one. Get carried away with me!

Lil Tip: Pop Balloon Animals in the Freezer to Make Them Last

What child doesn't love a balloon animal? The inflated toys are pretty common at tot birthdays, carnivals, and circuses, but there's a way a parent can try to stretch the creature's longevity. My son and daughter talked me into shelling out $10 for a couple of balloon animal bracelets at the farmers market yesterday, and the man who twisted the Hello Kitty and elephant wristlets into shape gave me a tip. He said to put the critters in the freezer when the kids aren't playing with them and the knotted pets could last for up to a year.

Do Kid-Friendly Perks Make Parents' Lives More Difficult?

Fine restaurants have children's night so mom and dad can dine and their youngster can tear up their napkin or shriek and no one minds, but what happens when the parents take their kiddo to another eatery? Some businesses make a kind and concerted effort to accommodate children from small shopping carts at the grocery story to rolls of stickers, lollipops, and balloons upon entrance or exit. Mothers who are just trying to get through daily tasks and errands with their lil ones are often grateful for these goodies. But the freebies aren't all sunshine and rainbows, a mom may end up spending a portion of her day peeling stick-um off her car seats and windows, consoling a hysterical tot when their balloon flies away with the wind, or prying candy from the firm fist of a baby. Do you welcome kid-geared goodies or wish companies didn't give offer them?

Cool Idea: Flowers Take Flight

This year's Macy's Flower Show is themed "Spring Is in the Air," complete with hot air balloons, kites, balloons, and, of course, fresh flowers galore! You truly feel like you've stepped in an enchanted garden walking into the department store. The standouts for me were the kites and balloons made from flowers - so fun! Those floral "balloons" are actually flower balls hanging from the ceiling by fishing line. You could get the same look by making your own and then attach a long ribbon to each. For the kites, you could attach real or fake flowers to a basic kite with a glue gun. And wouldn't they both make a gorgeous Spring centerpiece hanging low above a table?

Tying a balloon onto your child's wrist at a birthday party hardly gives a parent reason to fret. But one geek dad decided it would be fun to figure out just how many He (Helium for us lay persons) filled balloons it would take to lift his child into flight. Basing his calculations, the daddy figured he needed 1,143 helium injected balloons to hoist a clothed 30 pound 2-year-old boy.

Next time you're at a kiddie soirée ask your fellow partygoers, "How many balloons do you think it would take to get Johnny off the ground?"

Freaky or Fabulous? Meet Martin Margiela, Balloon Artiste

I am so thankful Martin Margiela is around. While Couture is blooming in Paris this week, some designers are showing their noncouture, but equally stunning, collections.

What you see here is from the house of Maison Martin Margiela. The Belgian designer continues to toot his own horn, and this collection was made of so-called "artisanal" pieces. Never one to shy away from unconventional materials, how do you feel about wearing a jacket made of balloons? Of all the party balloons concoctions I've witnessed - including some ill hats - I've never seen one of these. This puts those seasoned craftsmen to shame. Margiela used 30 balloons, some inflated, all twisted together. I think it's darn Fab. Side note: Come November, the designer will launch a line of fine jewelry in collaboration with Italy's Damiani. (Cool)

Although they are usually associated with children's birthday parties, balloons can be a chic enhancement to your event's atmosphere. Large quantities can be purchased at minimal prices, making them a simple and affordable decor idea. They come in every color imaginable and in a variety of different textures, allowing them to fit into any theme. Attach to chairs, fences, banisters, or tape to walls in interesting arrangements. My favorite way to decorate with balloons is to cover the entire ceiling with stringless globes.

Prabal Gurung Fall 2012

Maybe it was the models' purply-blue eyeshadow, the iridescent sleeves on the structured coats, the black carpeting on the runway, or the really cool black cape that opened the show, but the Prabal Gurung woman felt mysterious - or downright otherworldly - for Fall 2012. Gurung's carefully sculpted aesthetic was still completely feminine, thanks to ruffled tops, feathers, and beading, but there was a definite futuristic element thanks to digital prints and a series of gold lamé pieces with strong geometric shapes. As for the woman of mystery, sometimes the models were in sunglasses, other times in tall black hats, as if they were changing personas with each look. If the show started in dark, it ended incredibly light, with a series of ethereal white gowns that seemed to float down the runway, and likely right onto a red carpet sometime in the near future.

Trends: Cutouts, feathers, futurism, minimalism, capes, balloon sleeves.
Colors: Black, gold, white, cobalt, digitized prints.
Key Piece: Joan Smalls in a beaded, semi-sheer black gown was pretty gorgeous.
Accessories: Triple-strap black heels, gold power belts, black police hats.
Who Would Wear It: Someone who wants to make a dramatic statement. We can see Diane Kruger in the gold dresses, Jennifer Aniston in the short black dresses, and Emma Stone in the blue print dresses.
