Trendtotting: Sesame Street Goes Hipster Chic

We might not know how to get to Sesame Street, but we know how to dress like we do. In honor of the groundbreaking show's 40th anniversary, American Apparel has created a line of t-shirts and underwear featuring line drawings of popular Sesame characters for both tots and adults. While a partnership between the conservative, kid-oriented Children's Television Workshop and the risque shirt manufacturer may not seem obvious, the retro-inspired shirts are just too cute to pass up. Elmo, Big Bird, Grover, and Abby Cadabby all grace the line, which includes some number graphics that would make excellent birthday attire.

Not all expecting mamas are willing to surrender their closet to A Pea in the Pod. Fashion forward ladies can decorate themselves and their bump with American Apparel's edgy and funky maternity clothes - even if the brand is simply labeling belly friendly clothes already in production as "maternity." Trendtotting: American Eagle Introduces 77kids

In January we told you about American Eagle's plans to bring their hip style to the younger set and now the company has officially opened the doors to their 77kids line of clothing. Geared toward the 2-10 year olds, the line includes casual, mid-priced items like jeans, hoodies and polos. Named for the year its parent company was founded - 1977 - each of the 150 items in the line has been washed 77 times to ensure it withstands the rough and tumble life of a piece of kids' clothing.

Trendtotting: Abigail Breslin Shimmers Down Red Carpet

America's favorite girl, Abigail Breslin, showcased her sassy sense of 12-year-old style at the New York premiere of Kit Kittredge: American Girl. Looking every bit her age and like quite the lil lady in a gorgeous, sparkly Yana Brink couture dress, which was accented at the waist and had a decadently ruffed skirt that any woman would envy.

The actress, who stars as Kit, paired it with complementary peep toed shoes by BCBG Girls. While shimmering down the red carpet in the company of some of Hollywood's hottest like Julia Roberts and Julianne Moore, the talented sweetheart held her own, with hand on hip. And, sporting soft cascading tendrils and natural makeup, the movie star proved a tween could be a showstopper without sacrificing her sweetness. Now that's Tinseltown chic!

Actor Chris O'Donnell is known for his all-American looks and charm so it seems fitting that he and his wife, Caroline, dress their adorable children in unpretentious, but classic style. The three oldest O'Donnell kids showed up to the premiere of their dad's new family film Kit Kittredge: An American Girl looking like they had just stepped off the yacht and I love them for it. Lily, 8, walked the press line in a darling yellow number, while Chip, 7, and Charlie, 4, went for comfortable, pairing jeans with Crewcuts blazers, Ralph Lauren shirts, jeans and white Converse.

Mommy Alert! American Eagle to Kick Off Kid's Brand

Malls will be making space for another children's store in 2009. American Eagle is going to target the small set aged two to ten years old with the brand 77kids by american eagle. According to a Reuters article the line will debut on the web before autumn 2008. It said:

The brand will offer "cool clothes" seen at some higher-end children's stores, but at more affordable prices, O'Donnell said. Whereas a pair of kids' jeans at a more upscale chain cost $48, O'Donnell said 77kids will offer them at $24 to $26, with knits priced between $12 to $14.

Celebaby Style: Ava Sambora Rocks Sequins on the Red Carpet

Ava Sambora got her mother's good looks, but she may have inherited her dad, Richie Sambora's, rocking fashion sense. The petite tween rocked a glam striped and polka dot sequined dress on the red carpet of the American Idol Finale.

Available in all sorts of styles, young ladies can choose from long or cap sleeved frocks. Sassier and older tots may prefer the spaghetti strap apparel though slipping past the parents on the way out the door may be tougher than imagined. If that's the case, a simple cardigan or throw can complete the ensemble while buying mom and pop peace of mind.

Most youngsters don't need detailed political rants or your take on what George Washington would have said about the credit crisis; here are some politically correct ideas for broaching the subject of former White House residents with your children.

Read a Political Book: The What Presidents Are Made of book ($13) is a good starter for young children interested in history. It focuses on 17 US presidents and includes antidotes that show the human side of our former presidents. For example, George Washington is "made of good deeds." Here are some other reading suggestions for teaching tots about the presidential process.
Make a Patriotic Treat: Celebrate democracy with your lil darlings by making red, white, and blue snacks like an American Flag Cake, Fruit Kabobs or Obama cupcakes.
Dress Up in Your Political Gear: If you purchased or were given political apparel for your child during 2008's campaign, bring it out of the closet today so your tots can show their colors.
