Count your chickens before they hatch. Even if you’ve been told how much your bonus is, it will be taxed like regular income. Because of all the factors that play into it, don’t assume you know exactly how much will land in your account.

Short Sleepers: People Who Thrive on Less Sleep

I need a lot of sleep to get a good night's rest, and the amount is probably more than the average person. It's definitely a lot more than the ideal amount of seven hours of sleep that scientists recommend. Turns out, there are actually people called short sleepers who perform better on less.

Natural short sleepers, who can survive on less snooze time without being sleep deprived, seem to have it all. They have better moods, faster metabolism, and the ability to spring back quickly from disappointments, according to sleep scientist Christopher Jones.

Unfortunately, it's not a skill you can pick up. It's something you're born with, and it apparently surfaces during childhood for some short sleepers and runs in some families. Wow, I sort of envy short sleepers - it must be great having all this extra time and to wake up fresh after only a handful of hours of sleep!

How to Tune Up Your Circadian Rhythm For Spring

Do you ever find yourself in a healthy pattern of going to bed and waking up at the same time each day? I love it when this happens because it means A) I don't need an alarm clock since my body is waking up naturally and B) that I'm following the same sleep schedule on the weekend, which makes me feel well rested and ready to conquer my weekend errands and activities.

The reason we feel so great when we're on a regular sleep cycle is because we're setting our circadian rhythm - the tiny master clock structure in our brain that is filled with nerve cells and is the pattern of sleep and awake cycles, affected by light. What's interesting to note is that people who live in complete darkness (hello - Reykjavik in the Winter!) are still able to adjust to a 25-hour clock with regular sleeping and waking patterns.
