There are a lot of instances where a woman has no control over whether or not she has twins, but there are also a few things a woman can do if she's hoping for a dynamic duo in utero. Woman Pregnant With Siblings, Not Twins

Carrying two babies, but they aren't twins? A woman goes in for her routine first sonogram where doctors see a healthy baby girl growing in the womb. Moments later, doctors hear a second heartbeat belonging to a younger fetus. They soon discover that the woman is pregnant with two children, two weeks apart in age, making them siblings, not twins.

An Arkansas couple appears to have a very rare case of superfetation, which involves conceiving while already pregnant. Doctors have only found about 10 other similar cases in history. While gross differences in the conception dates of the babies can potentially cause lung development issues in the younger one, these babies appear to be healthy and growing at normal rates. The babies have different due dates, but will likely be born at the same time. This should make birthday party planning a bit easier for the parents, because if they were born on their actual due dates, one would be born in December 2009 and the other in January 2010. The picture of the all-American family that lives in the house with a picket fence has long included a mom, dad, and two children. Most restaurants have tables for four readily available. When mamas and papas choose to have two offspring, they are never outnumbered. Notable parents of multiples, from Jon Gosselin to Rebecca Romijn, have said that the world is made for pairs. The former was content after having his 8-year-old twin daughters, Cara and Mady, and it appears that the latter parent has a similar sentiment in raising her lil duo, Dolly and Charlie, who are 8 months. The actress recently said:

"I'm pretty sure that this is it. We feel like the world was made for pairs. Four feels like the perfect number."

My 5-year-old twins are entering kindergarten next month and I was just contacted by their new school regarding their class placement. We kept the girls in the same class during nursery school and it worked well for them in terms of their learning, meeting new friends, and having each other to lean on. But as their pre-K year came to an end, their distinctive personalities came through. While one was outgoing, the other complained that her sister was leaving her out of activities. Do you think it would be best to separate them going forward?

Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick introduced the newest additions to their family, Marion Loretta Elwell and Tabitha Hodge this evening. The twins, born on June 22 via a surrogate, join big brother James Wilkie, 6, at the family's home in New York City. When the actors announced their impending twins, they discussed their struggle to conceive another child and their decision to turn to a surrogate. We can only hope that the new cuties don't fight too much over their mom's closet full of goodies!

Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick are said to be "over the moon" after welcoming twin daughters last night. According to People :

Born at 3:58 p.m., Marion Loretta Elwell Broderick weighed 5 lbs., 11 oz, and Tabitha Hodge Broderick weighed 6 lbs. Both Hodge and Elwell are family names on Parker's side."

The actors who are also parents to James Wilkie, 6, were present at the Ohio hospital where their surrogate gave birth to the girls. Congratulations to the party of five!
