When babe's is in arms, a mother can watch what she wants — from Grey's Anatomy to The Real Housewives, she doesn't have to worry about wee eyes seeing racy scenes or hearing inappropriate language. Then, the child enters the toddler phase and it's time to tame what's being shown on the tube. This can get hairy if the home only has a single television set.

It's not easy or cheap keeping children amused. They hoot and holler for a toy or DVD when you're standing at the check out, but realize they prefer their ratty teddy bear and binky the moment you get in the car. The economy has so many of us tightening our spending budgets and seeking simple ways to save on everyday expenses so there's little room for whim purchases.

Last night we watched as The Bachelor Jason Mesnick picked a future wife and stepmother for his son, Ty. (I won't spoil the ending for those of you who set your TiVo while taking care of the kids, but it was pretty shocking.)
Witnessing the divorced Seattle dad, who has been raising Ty on his own, open up to the women on the show but still keep Ty relatively protected from the limelight was incredibly intriguing. I was reminded how lucky I am to have my husband by my side to help me make parenting decisions and care for our little ones.

The 39th season of Sesame Street is set to debut on August 11, so the Children's Television Workshop has provided us with a sneak peek at one of the celebrity acts to join Elmo and friends on set. Popular Canadian singer Feist will kick off the season with a special rendition of her “1 2 3 4” song.
The new season will feature a host of guest celebrity appearances, including Will Arnett, Jessica Alba, David Beckham, Heidi Klum, Neil Patrick Harris, Sandra Oh, Jenny McCarthy, Jason Taylor, and Jack Black.
