The suburban families of ABC's The Middle, Suburgatory, and Last Man Standing hit neighborhood streets for a little trick-or-treating during their Halloween episodes, with both adults and kids dressing up in costume. Some, like The Middle's Sue, embrace the Halloween spirit with a homemade costume, while others, like Suburgatory's apathetic Tessa, use a single accessory to create a look. Grey's Anatomy, Modern Family, and 4 More ABC Shows Renewed

It's ABC's time to shine at the Winter TCA, and the network kicked off the day by announcing the pickup of six series. It's no shocker that rating hits like Grey's Anatomy and Modern Family will be coming back, along with The Middle, Private Practice, and Castle. I was also delighted to see that Cougar Town will be getting a third season.

As for shows that are still in the lurch? The jury is still out on aging series like Desperate Housewives and Brothers and Sisters, plus freshman series like Better With You.

The Middle: Does Your Life Revolve Around Your Children?

Has your home been taken over by children? On last night's hilarious episode of The Middle, Frankie and Mike decide to take back their house after realizing that their lives revolve around the whims and demands of Axel, Sue, and Brick. As part of the effort, the parents plan meals around their own preferences, have a hangover-inducing date night, and stop shuttling their kids and running errands. Ultimately, they find that making their children happy has great personal rewards. For better or worse, do your offspring tell you what to do?

Moms need an escape from reality every now and then, but they don't often stray too far from the central themes of their own lives. Though the boob tube is filled with shows that speak to women, we often find ourselves wrapped up in programs that focus on parenting. Though some approach it from a comedic angle, and others from the dramatic, we just can't seem to escape watching families grapple with the bigger issues in caring for their kids. Which parenting-themed show is your favorite?

Mother's Day isn't all macaroni art and roses! On last night's hilarious episode of The Middle, Frankie compares her holiday to that of her husband Mike's. She concludes that Father's Day is ultimately a success because mothers run it. And acknowledges the day after Mother's Day as the real treat - when a mom isn't put on the spot or responsible for making everyone else happy. What do you think?

Six TV Shows With Incredible Mom Characters

It's hard to keep track of the TV lineup much less get the chance to actually sit down and watch your picks once you are a mother. But, lately there are so many good shows on the tube with strong, relatable women characters that it's time to put your DVR to use! This allows a mama to watch the shows once her kids have been tucked into bed and skip the commercials which saves time. Here are six prime time series that are too good to miss. Check out why these shows and their maternal characters are a must-see!

A Few Reasons Moms Should Watch The Middle

Patricia Heaton is hysterical as Frankie Heck, a midwest mom of three who tries to make ends meet by selling used cars in ABC's sitcom The Middle. Though the show is relatively new, it already has its share of memorable moments and situations to which any harried mother can relate. Check out a few of my favorites:

Despite being near-broke and constantly pulled in different directions, Frankie is still head over heels in love her husband Mike. They celebrate their anniversary with a road trip to the carpet remnant store and shack up in a cheap motel.
Sue believes a pair of cool jeans will change her life, and even though she needs a lot more help to blend in, Frankie breaks the bank and buys her the dungarees . . . then accidentally shrinks them.
Brick is sick, so Frankie (being the working girl that she is) bundles him up and puts him in the back of one of the cars on the lot to rest - only an unknowing customer takes the vehicle out for a spin.
Frankie grabs 15 minutes of me time by locking the door of a public bathroom, painting her toe nails, putting on a maxi pad mask, and turning off her cell phone; in that time, everything goes awry.
Short on time and resources, Frankie steals sugar cubes from the work coffee table for Brick's school project, a model that he was building just for fun.
When Frankie (or any member of the Heck family) "makes dinner'" they pick up takeout. Then, the fivesome sit down on the couch and watch TV while eating burgers and fries out of their paper bags.
