The Pull Present

Okay, so the father doesn't actually pull the baby out per se, but he's often there to mentally coax mama along as she pushes the baby into the world. It has become common practice in recent years for men to bestow a gift upon their wives for birthing their child. Whether it's a card, balloons, roses, or a diamond tennis bracelet, it's nice to be recognized for nine months of hard work.

When I had my first child, I gave my husband a lil something to thank him for all of his coaching, attention to detail and concern during my childbearing months. Here are some ideas if you're looking to give your daddy a "pull" present, too.

Why are dads always so tough to shop for? I feel like I give mine the same things year after year - boring books, lame slippers, and a nose hair trimmer.

All of this for a man who taught me to ride a bike, put me through college, and endured my teenage tantrums. This year, dad is going to like his presents - love them even!

Most dads shave, even if it's just a trim. And, shaving with disposable razors and gel foam is a thing of the past. Men like to be pampered, too. Give your dad a gift set from The Art of Shaving. He will wonder why he's been a prisoner to the cheap stuff for so long.

Show us a dad who doesn't engage in any sport and we'll say, "Liar! Liar!" But really, most men have an affection for one sport or another. Sports Authority is a major chain across America that has everything from golf balls to archery supplies. Treat dad to a piece of equipment or better yet, get him a gift card and let him do the picking.
If your dad always reads newspapers and his old standard magazines, surprise him with a subscription to Vanity Fair. He'll thank you for ensuring he's up to speed on all the latest in politics, news and entertainment.
Whether he's a gym rat, a tennis pro, or a Sunday afternoon walker, dad will like listening to tunes on the go. He may not need the full kit and caboodle but get him started with the iPod Shuffle from Apple. He can listen to Motown and get groovin' on the treadmill.
And while he won't need these for his workouts, if dad's a traveling man, these will come in handy for plane rides. Bose makes the ultimate noise canceling head phones that will block out any crying babies, chatty neighbors, or clanging flight attendants. Dad deserves some R&R every now and then.

Etsy Rolls Out Direct Checkout - Will You Prefer It Over PayPal?

Have you ever tried to buy something on Etsy, but didn't follow through on the sale due to the extra step required to complete the sale through PayPal? I can think of at least one instance when I forgot my PayPal password and abandoned a sale - and I'm sure I'm not the only buyer who's faced this quandary. Starting today, however, the PayPal step will become a thing of the past: a direct, on-site Etsy payment option is rolling out in the next few months.

Today, Etsy's CEO Chad Dickerson wrote in an open letter,

I'm excited to announce that we are rolling out direct checkout, a new way for shops to accept credit card payments from buyers directly on Etsy. The rollout will continue over the next several months to all U.S. sellers . . . This is an important step forward for Etsy.

Etsy shop owners can learn more about the direct checkout in this video or on this open Etsy thread. Direct checkout will cost an additional three percent plus 25 cents USD in payment processing fee per sale, which may turn off some sellers, especially those who deal in lower-price-point items.

One of the other improvements slated for rollout in 2012 is a gift-card option, which should boost Etsy sales even further. While I love choosing Etsy items for friends and family, sometimes a gift-card option would make it a more feasible option for those hard-to-buy-for folks like my dad.

I know that I'll appreciate having the checkout process streamlined and not having to hop over to PayPal to finish my purchases. Will you be using the new direct checkout instead of PayPal?

Jay-Z wrote a song to honor his newborn daughter, Blue Ivy Carter! In record time, Jay got together the lyrics and music for "Glory," which even features some audio from the little one.

In the track, Jay refers to Blue as "God's gift" and "the most beautifulest thing in the world." The new dad rapped, "Words can't describe what I'm feeling, for real." He goes on to say "my greatest creation was you." Brad Pitt Puts His Injured Leg Forward For a Day of Pampering

Brad Pitt visited a European skin care spa in LA this afternoon. He left with a smile on his face despite needing the help of a cane to walk due to an apparent leg injury. Brad and his family have been spending the last few weeks near their home in California, and the dad of six was spotted picking up groceries with Pax in Los Feliz just after the New Year. Brad drove a motorcycle with a sidecar for the outing. The new ride may have been one of Brad's holiday gifts, which also included the waterfall and surrounding land that Angelina Jolie reportedly gave him as a Christmas and birthday present.

Brad's 2012 is already off to a great start with Oscar buzz surrounding his role in Moneyball. His good friend George Clooney could be nominated for The Descendants too, though George recently said he's not worried about the possibility of a faceoff. George said, "Brad is my pal, and we're a long way from that discussion anyway. But I'd like living in a world where Brad Pitt has an Academy Award."
