Is There Such a Thing as a Spoiled Child?

While some parents expect their children to march to the beat of an adult drummer, others delight in watching kiddos pave their own way with their defined personalities. Is a child who pitches a fit late at night in a toy store tired or spoiled? Is a tot who runs in the opposite direction than he's been directed a free thinker or spoiled? Is a 2-year-old not wanting to share a developmental issue, or is she spoiled? LilSugar readers had very passionate views as to what constitutes a spoiled kid, and this made me wonder - is there even such a thing?

Frequently over-indulged tots can turn a temper tantrum here and there into significant behavioral issues as they get older. If you could identify with several of the signs of a spoiled child, its time to take control of the situation and start "unspoiling" your lil one. Here are 10 tips to get you started.

10 Signs That Your Child Is Spoiled

They say you can't spoil a baby with endless amounts of holding, rocking, and cooing, but once that child passes the toddler years, over-indulgence can make for one ill-behaved tot. It's easy to pick out the spoiled kid on the playground, but much harder to turn a critical eye on ourselves. Here's a checklist of 10 signs that indicate that you may have a spoiled child on your hands.

Would You Spend $10,000 On Your Tot's Birthday Party?

Call me old fashioned or what you will, but I rather enjoy the birthday parties with pin the tail on the donkey, sheet cakes, balloons, and cellophane wrapped party favors.

To see what some mothers are spending on their tot's celebrations,

While birthday festivities should focus on the child being celebrated, the trend of outlandish bashes seems to do just the opposite.

Instead of highlighting the five–year–old, crazed mothers spend oodles of money to enter the "look at me" competition amongst the mommy clan.

Over the Top Productions is a company that encourages this behavior by planning extravagant fetes for lil ones. Some parties cost parents up to $10,000. I'd rather put that into a savings account for my wee one.

When I heard that Moses Martin had a fiesta at a Mexican restaurant in NYC, I was proud of Gwyneth and Chris for providing their son with some sort of normalcy in a not–so–normal life.

But then I heard that Suri Cruise had a $5,000 birthday cake for her second birthday (pictured above). Now really, can you honestly tell me that Suri prefers fondant to butter cream frosting? I think not. But amongst her pals, Katie Holmes might get "Mommy of the Year" for her billable efforts.

Would you ever spend a lavish amount on a birthday party for your child?

This sweet treat may also boost brainpower, help you relax, and more!
By Mara Betsch, Prevention

Show your heart some love this Valentine’s Day by nibbling a few chocolates - and making them a regular treat throughout the year. A recent study found that those consuming the highest levels of chocolate had a 37 percent reduction in cardiovascular disease and a 29 percent reduction in stroke compared to those with lower chocolate intakes.

Though experts are quick to clarify that we should stick to moderate consumption of high-calorie chocolates, it’s hard to deny the cold, hard facts that chocolate can be a healthy addition to our diets.

Seven Surprising Ways to Sharpen Your Mind

Hundreds of studies have shown that dark chocolate is packed with antioxidants that promote heart health and may prevent many cardiovascular-related conditions, but we’ve dug up five more surprising health benefits. Read on for five new ways to justify your chocolate craving.

1. Chocolate May Help You With Math
Flavonols, compounds in chocolate with antioxidantlike properties, are thought to improve circulation, including blood flow to the brain. A 2009 study asked participants to count backward in groups of three from a number between 800 and 999. After drinking hot cocoa filled with flavonols, the participants were able to do calculations more quickly and accurately and were less likely to feel tired or mentally drained.

"He Won't Buy Me an Engagement Ring"

This question is from a Group Therapy post in our TrèsSugar Community. Add your advice in the comments!

My boyfriend had been hinting to me about getting married and starting a family. He has been divorced before but no kids. I don't know if he's joking or not but I think he's trying to tell me that he won't get a diamond ring for me. He told me he thinks a diamond ring is pointless because it's expensive and there's no meaning behind it. He would rather use the money for something else. My boyfriend is not cheap. He's generous and spoils me. We love each other very much but this is bothering the hell out of me. I have told him that a diamond ring is something that symbolizes marriage, eternity, and I like jewelry and diamonds!

I am 25 and he is 35 and this will be my first marriage if we do tie the knot. I know the ring isn't the most important thing in this relationship but it's part of tradition and I like jewelry.

Have a dilemma of your own? Post it anonymously to Group Therapy for advice, and check out what else is happening in the TrèsSugar Community.

"Perfect Boyfriend . . . Except For Three Major Problems"

This question is from a Group Therapy post in our TrèsSugar Community. Add your advice in the comments!

I am 38 and dating an amazing man of 35. We've been together for about five months and despite his attempts to "take it slow" he is basically living with me. He still has his other place but is here every night except maybe once a month. We get along great, have a lot of laughs, and really seem to understand each other. Personally I'm madly in love in a way I've never experienced.

We have both been divorced for about 2-3 years and he admits to being incredibly hurt by his last girlfriend, who dumped him and got married to her ex (yep, that would hurt!). When we met, I was just out of a relationship that should have ended months prior and neither of us were really looking for anything serious, but I feel I was more ready than him. He just took me by surprise and swept me off my feet, and while he kept maintaining that we were taking it slow, it didn't go that way - within a couple months he was calling me his girlfriend by accident and like I said, staying with me all the time. Here's the problem:

Keep reading to find out this reader's three major problems in her relationship.
