Salma Hayek Doesn't Let Valentina Cry It Out

Compassionate mama Salma Hayek, who made headlines when she breastfed a sick and starving baby, passed on a motherly tip this morning on the Rachel Ray Show. When asked about the best advice she was given in raising her 1-year-old daughter, Valentina Pinault, the actress passed on words of wisdom from her own mother. She said:

Everybody tells you what to do and everybody contradicts each other and it drives you mad. Put her in the bassinet or the cradle to sleep. Stick her in there, let her cry. Everybody was telling me this, but I wasn't doing it. She (my mother) said to me always put your baby to sleep because one day you are going to wish you could do that - that you could hold her in your arms and put her to sleep. You know, I put my baby to sleep every night and I love that moment even though sometimes it takes hours. But I do enjoy it very, very much.

Valentina Pinault traveled all the way to Venice for her parents' wedding, while Pax and Maddox Jolie-Pitt were treated to Dunkin' Donuts in New York. Salma Hayek Breastfeeds Sick Baby on UNICEF Trip

One child around the world dies every three minutes from a completely preventable illness - tetanus. A recent ABC news report followed actress and producer Salma Hayek to Africa on a UNICEF mission to raise awareness for tetanus in partnership with Pampers. Salma stood bedside with a young mother as her seven-day-old daughter, Fatima, took her last breath. Had the woman be given a vaccine that costs just seven cents while pregnant, the newborn's life would have been spared.

At another clinic, Salma was so moved by a sick one-week-old born on the same date as her own daughter, Valentina, 1, that she picked up the hungry child and nursed him.
