There's been a tot boom in Tinseltown so most expectant women have celebmamas or mamas-to-be to ogle during their pregnancies. While we sport our burgeoning bellies in our daily lives, Hollywood's hottest stars have their glowing faces and swollen ankles plastered across magazine covers. When I got pregnant with my daughter, Reese Witherspoon set the expectant standard.

The second time around with my son, Gwen Stefani was the picture of pregnancy perfection carrying Kingston. I loved how day in and day out, the blond rocker strutted her stuff with those signature red lips. And, I admired her for doing it all over again while bearing baby Zuma. I don't know who I'll be watching this time around - was there a notable mom you went through pregnancy with?

In a recent interview, celeb mama Reese Witherspoon said that her daughter, Ava, 9, is unimpressed by her vocals. The article said:

"She said, 'Mom I really appreciate you taking me to the concert, but will you please not embarrass me in front of Carrie Underwood by singing because she's a real singer and you're just, like a movie singer," says Witherspoon, who won a Best Actress Oscar for playing singer June Carter Cash in 2005's Walk the Line.

This busy mother of two (Ava, 9, and Deacon, 5), who most recently brought home a People's Choice Award, stays actively involved in her kids' lives as well as other children's and women's advocacy organizations. The Oscar Award-winner serves on the board of the Children's Defense Fund, continues her role as Global Ambassador for the Avon Foundation, and remains a long-time supporter of Save the Children.
This supermom and superstar has a few new animated movies I'm eager to take my kids to in 2009!

Like their rich and famous parents, Tinseltown tots are often snapped and followed by the paps. Brad Pitt recently told Oprah about the effects the constant and crowding cameramen have on his kids. He said it particularly disturbs his 3-year-old daughter, Zahara. In the latest issue of Parade, Reese Witherspoon talked of her mama bear instincts kicking into high gear to guard her cubs Ava, 8, and Deacon, 4. To see what she said, read more.
She said:

“After my second baby, I was scared,” she recalls. “It’s hard to protect your babies from the press and all the people out there wanting a part of you. It made me hibernate a little bit more. I got very ‘Mama Bear’ and protective. You give birth, and worry and guilt come with it. It’s a natural part of being a parent. But for me, the most difficult part is seeing my children being followed and harassed. They’ve been treated terribly. They were shouted at in their Halloween costumes, photographers screaming, ‘You don’t look scared!’ We used to take our daughter to a wonderful school, and she was so harassed that we had to take her out. I hope not to live in this place forever."

Pregnancy Is Hollywood's Comeback Kid

There's just one thing better than a Hollywood blockbuster - being pregnant. Tinseltown may be ruthless, but when a woman's belly swells she's granted a reprieve and copious amounts of publicity. While onlookers imagine which onesies and soft soled shoes Brad and Angelina's twins will wear, the baby frenzy proves just as lucrative for Melissa Joan Hart, the former child star who now supplements her made for television movie income by blogging about potty training.

On a recent episode of Chelsea Lately, Melissa chatted about natural birth and the Maxim spread she did when she was 23 in order to plug Pampers Pull-Ups. The former teenage witch wouldn't get $10 million for pictures of her mini mes like the Jolie-Pitts are expected to, but motherhood has kept her in the media and gifted her a nice share of swag. It used to be that expectant actresses wore tent dresses and stood behind couches and carried shopping bags to disguise themselves while shooting scenes for the big and lil screen. But once Reese Witherspoon got pregnant with Deacon prior to filming Vanity Fair all of that changed. The Oscar winner negotiated her burgeoning belly into the film.

And, just as the shutterbugs have camped out to catch the latest after hours hookups or bar brawls, they now wait with angled lens to catch couples exiting the maternity ward of Cedars-Sinai or Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale catching Kingston at the bottom of the slide. While critics roll a skeptical eye and call children celebrities' latest accessories, this infatuation with families is more a result of powerful women changing the game by choosing to have children and not feeling that they have to sacrifice their very public careers.
