In nearly every pregnancy-related blockbuster, the audience sees a quick slip of What to Expect When You're Expecting or The Expectant Father. In Knocked Up, Seth Rogen's character buys a stack of pregnancy books and swears he will read them before the birth of his child. On a pregnancy high, many women with child run to their local bookstore or library and take on as much reading material as possible. Whatever she doesn't buy, a friend is sure to send to her.

Pete Wentz told People:

I'm reading a lot of books . . . The biggest one is The Expectant Father. It's a really good one.

When I was pregnant, I tried to get my hands on every book that would tell me what was happening to my body and why. I found the best resource to be Your Pregnancy Week by Week.

Every Sunday night, I would get in bed and pull out my book to find out what changes were going on inside. Sometimes, I cheated and read the week ahead only to be bummed out the next Sunday when there was nothing new.

Would You Buy the Pregnant Man's Book?

Since announcing his pregnancy, I've been fascinated by transgender man, Thomas Beatie. Until he appeared on Oprah to tell his unique story, many were convinced the tale was a hoax. But, more than the biology of the situation, I've been captivated by the intense reactions people have had to his decision to have a child.

Whether it will be a best–seller remains to be seen, but Thomas Beatie is penning his memoirs in a book titled Love Makes a Family: A Memoir of Hardship, Healing and an Extraordinary Pregnancy.

Go Green: The Complete Organic Pregnancy Book

There's a pretty lil green book called the Complete Organic Pregnancy ($10).

The text guides mamas–to–be down a "green" path of healthy living for themselves and their unborn child without scaring them into a hole.

Authors Deirdre Dolan and Alexandra Zissu identify hidden toxins and other harmful agents that mums can avoid or replace. An eye opening read, the book even dishes on certain cosmetics that aren't good for mommy or her fetus.

Divided into sections, the book helps parents through different phases of parenthood: transforming, growing and living. Having the stages broken out helps expecting parents figure out what needs tending to and when. The paperback also features personal diaries from well–known "green" parents and recipes from organic chefs. A fan of most any cuisine, I was psyched to see ideas on how to cook organic.

Birth, parenting and life after baby bring an element of uncertainty so many parents will delight in knowing they have made their womb and surroundings as safe as organically possible.

Think the entry into motherhood isn't tough enough? Try adding an unsolved murder mystery to your "to do" list. While it's not the typical postpartum scenario, it's entertaining to read about.

Mamas looking to kill some time may enjoy the quick mystery read by Diana Orgain. An interesting take on murder-centric novels, Bundle of Trouble ($7) is about a new mom who finds her family entangled in a fatal crime. Along with her investigative work, the recovering mum talks about breastfeeding, pumping, and losing the baby weight. The perfect gift for a lady on bedrest, expectant mothers will not only find the book a speedy read, they'll learn a few of motherhood's best kept secrets along the way.

CBS's Accidentally on Purpose Pales in Comparison to Book

Mary Pols's Accidentally on Purpose made me laugh, cry, and relate. I rooted for the 39-year-old film critic and her baby daddy, Matt, as I read the author's witty account of her unplanned journey into motherhood. Considering the book to be the mama of all pregnancy must reads, I even gifted it to several expecting friends. So last night, I sat on my couch crossing my fingers that CBS's new sitcom based on the text would live up to my expectations. It didn't even come close. Here's why.

I couldn't wrap my mind around Jenna Elfman as Billie - I kept seeing Dharma and her over-the-top antics, but no Greg.

The stereotypical characters on the small screen lacked the depth of those in the text. Billie is a haphazard cougar on the prowl and Zack (Jon Foster) is an overgrown kid with poor pickup lines and idiot friends, a big stretch from the endearing 20-something in the book that got a woman several years his senior in the sack.
The season premiere was rushed. In a single episode, we saw the demise of Billie's relationship with James (Grant Show), her rebound fling with Zach, the two move in together and a nursery concocted.

I won't be watching the show again . . . unless the network saves the one-dimensional sitcom by hiring Pols as head writer. What's your opinion?

Jenna Elfman Takes Her Television Role to Real Life

Many serious actors like to step into their character's shoes to fully understand the role they are asked to portray. It appears Jenna Elfman is taking her role on the new show Accidentally on Purpose quite literally. The small screen mama is expanding her family and making her son Story, 2, a big brother. The sitcom debuts this coming Monday, Sept. 21 and will tell the tale of a woman who finds herself expecting a young man's babe - a slight variation from the actress's real-life story. If the show is anything like the amazingly written book, we'll be fans. Wardrobe accommodations should be made a bit easier as the stylists will have a real bump to work with as opposed to pillows or other lovely stuffings. Surely the leggy mommy could reenact her pregnancy days without having to live them out but the authenticity and humor of certain moments will seamlessly translate to the audience and her costars.
